And I've been doing my fair share of screaming. I pulled my lower back muscle when I was rear-ended in 2001. I went into physical therapy to strengthen the muscle and thought everything was going to be okay.

Wrong. At least twice a year since then, I'll strain the muscle without ANY warning. And not just like "Ooh, that's painful," but so badly that I can't fucking walk. I'm bed-ridden now, and when I got up to go to the bathroom the pain was so severe I collapsed and started crying. I'm alone now, my brother went to fucking New York, and none of my friends have keys to the apartment. I can't get any kind of food or water because it sends sharp shooting pains down my legs an lumbar region if I get up. I'm not really that girly when it comes to pain, but this shit is absolutely ridiculous. I feel so useless. :(

one time that was really painful was when i was in crutches cuz i sprained my knee or ankle (don't remember) and i got up to go to my room, i was passing the hallway but my mom didn't tell me she just finished mopping the floor, so i fell with crutches and all to the ceramic floor. it hurt so badly i felt some weird fire type pain in my knee.

Ha! Naw, I can't do that anymore since I work for the government. I did take ibuprofen which seems to be taking the edge off JUST a little bit. Enough to be able to get out bed and shut the blinds and get a bowl of cereal without screaming.

I don't think I can go to work tomorrow, but I don't have any time saved up! We don't get sick days, we get "combination days" which means you can choose if you want it to be for vacation or for sickness. I've used all my days for vacation (duh, like everyone else). Blah.

ahahahha

Does anyone know if chiropractors do muscle pain? I've gone to my regular physician in the past for muscle pain but he just says "Take these muscle relaxants" and sends me on my way. The pills don't do much. I know chiropractors do stuff like spinal cord injuries and bone stuff in the back, I wasn't sure if they specialized in like, torn muscles. Or if they could even do anything for me. Anyone know?

sorry you're hurting. :(

you lose nothing by calling a chiropractor and asking if they can treat muscle spasms. i'm not really sure what they do, but tons of people swear by them.

Turns out that I have two inflamed joints, right where the spine meets the pelvis in the back. She says that they're protruding out my back (true, I felt the knobs) and they may have fused incorrectly. She says it could stem back to a rear-ending accident I had in '01 where I had to go into physical therapy.

I have to go back into physical therapy again, which means more time off work (that I don't have), and more money spent. My insurance covers $1,000, but after that I gotta pay. So that's about 12 visits my insurance will cover. Let's hope I get okay in 2 weeks because I can't afford anything more. :(

Thanks for the good wishes, people.

aw I'm sorry Diana :(

I hope it gets better asap. So no one can come help at all? That stinks.

I hope it doesn't cost too much either. I'm still in the hole and feeling the effects of medical debt. It fucking sucks and I don't wish that upon anyone, especially a friend.

let me know if I can help in any way, miss.

Ah yes, that 'almost' is especially important. I'm glad you didn't actually shat your pance. (y)

And thanks Ms. Crystal! I called my mom today about it, obviously upset because even though I have insurance I worry about taking unpaid time off of work and having to pay deductibles and co-insurances and the like. She told me my back and health is the most important issue and not to worry about the money. She and my dad have a little extra since they retired and sold the house, so they can help me out with medical bills. I'm really lucky I have such nice parents. :o

Diana, you have my fullest sympathy. A couple of years ago I had a mad muscle spasm in my back, but I was stuck in traffic on a motorway at the time. The muscle spasmed for about 2 hours before I could get out of the car, and when I did it was so bad I couldn't walk, sit down or do anything really. I then had to drive 2 hours home, luckily my car had cruise control and all I had to do was steer the car. I had to stay at my parents' house for two weeks as I couldn't look after myself (my dad even had to pull me out of the car when I arrived).

My doctor would only give me painkillers, so I had several sessions with an osteopath, which seemed to sort the problem. I occasionally get twinges in my back, but I swim a lot, which seems to have strengthened my back quite a bit.

Did anyone give you any kind of exercise program to help strengthen your back?

QueenAdrock

^Ouch. I can relate. She said no exercise quite yet, though. They're doing physical therapy everyday, some shit with electrodes giving me mild shocks to my back. And then she moves the joint around to get it loosened up which hurts like a bitch but feels better afterwards.

I'm still in the inflammation phase but we're working on it. She said I'm doing quite well, it's about 50% better today than it was yesterday. Once my joints are better, she's going to give me exercises to do to strengthen my back. Right now, she says absolutely no exercise, no walking up stairs, no lifting anything, no bending over. Which is bad, because I have to move this weekend so I have to recruit all my friends to help me out with this one. Bleh.

I had the electrodes thing too. It's weird because it feels quite intense, then subsides and then they crank up the power and it's really intense again.
When the osteopath first brought them out, all I could think of was the Jackass movie.

I had a pinched sciatic nerve once and had to go to the emergency room. It was really, really painful. The first examining nurse assumed I was passing a kidney stone. They wound up giving me a shot of something, and even then it took about 20 minutes before the meds kicked in, and they kept me overnight.

So, yeah, I empathize.
