i don't like my name. it's not cool. it's like the name of an aunt or someone from the 50s or a secretary or something. and you can't modify it into anything cool either.

What is it? Or is that a secret?

I kind of don't mind my name. My dad wanted to call me Daisy which also would have been cool. I prefer my sister's name (Alex - short for Alexandria)

It's ok. I go through periods of not liking it and then thinking it's ok again.

It was a bit unique when I was growing up, but every man and his dog are calling their kids/pups Aidan now, and only 23% of them can spell it correctly. Added to that, the fact that half the people I've ever met haven't bothered to take it in and simply called me Adrian instead infuriates me more than anything else.

Ugh, I hate it again now.

I like my name - Katy.

Most people assume it's a shortened version of Elizabeth and insist on asking me if it is so. Then say "huh, that's unusual. Just Beth."

A lot of people ask me if my name is short for Katherine or Kathleen (it isn't)

My parents had a big hoo ha when they registered my birth. The registrar initially said i couldn't be called Katy as it was a 'shortened name'. He gave in though.

The 70's eh? Anything goes now.

(lb) In almost all forms of Commonwealth English, the letter is named zed, reflecting its derivation from the Greek zeta. The American English form zee derives from an English late 17th-century dialectal form, now obsolete in England. (lb)

I don't know any other Diana's, and I think it's pretty. Princess Di was a swell lady so I like being associated with her. It's unique but not unheard of, so I like it.

What I HATE are these people who grew up in the 1950's and are so used to their best friends being named "Diane" and they glance at my name on emails or whatever else and I guess they just see the first 4 letters and then figure it's Diane and call me Diane. that's my ex's name, i think its a really nice name. it doesn't remind me of my ex, it reminds me of aidan on sex and the city, and aidan was lovely :) it really annoyed me how everyone insisted on spelling it aiden, even after i clearly typed it with an a, they would type it with an e. even after i made my housemate spell it correctly on an important document, she spelt it wrong for the rest of the time. i dunno, i think spelling people's names wrong is disrespectful.

aaaanyway, i like my name. it's amy. i think it looks nice, as in the letters. sort of balanced with the big a and the y.

i'm lucky in that it's a common name, but not many people in my year/school/friend groups had it, so its pretty "me". i don't really like it in an american accent though, reminds me of blonde cheerleaders on tv. i also am not a fan of the shortened versions "ame" or "ames". but you know, australians don't like to use more than one syllable so yeah...

i'm happy i didn't score the other names considered for me... jessica and louise. i'm not a fan of louise (i think because the shortened version sounds like slang for a toilet) and jessica is so fucking common i can't bear it. nice name though.

i am kind of annoyed they chose to make up a name for my brother, and just choose a regular one for me. boo. oh and no middle name (hippy parents). my grandmother disapproved of names like amy and sarah, she said they were slave names.

bobby of course came up with my current SN.

diana: i loathe being called lizzie. my last name is pronounced like borden, just not spelled like that. so, you get the picture of what i went through as a child. plus, every day at work, on the information of the day list (as to who is out), they put a historical fact. each year, on lizzie borden's birthday, it talks about her killing her parents with an axe, so i then get emails about how i don't look like i'm a day over 100, or why i wasn't better with the axe so that i didn't have to hit them so many times, etc.

ugh.
