Did anyone watch this last night on BBC2 about the Westboro Baptist Church and the Phelps family?
I'd never heard about them before and basically watched the entire thing in utter disbelief. The picketing of the funerals of dead soldiers by 7 year olds holding offensive banners was particulary uncomfortable viewing.
I really liked the fact that everytime louis put forward a view that was against them they would either react in a hostile manner or by saying something like 'poopy pants'.
I loved the bit where he pointed out that they are moulded in a very similar vein to a cult.

I FUCKING LOVE LOUIS THEROUX AND I WANT TO HAVE HIS HIGH CULTURED BABIES AND EAT HIS FUCKING FACE. JESUS CHRIST.
we only saw half of it, but it was great.
that man has a very clever interviewing style. very charming. but also slightly manipulative, too. he basically becomes their mate. that older girl, the daughter, she was totally crushing on him and you could see his mind working wickedly.
when they were spouting all that shit about the jews i could see him just be slightly GRR but then zen again. i was like YO LOUIS. I'LL LOVE YOUR PRETTY JEWISH FACE, LIKE. COME TO GLASGOW.
i liked it when he pointed out jesus would come back as the lamb, not the lion, and, erm, why are you specifically spreading god's hate, instead of god's love, but still complaining you receive 'hate' back?
and talking to the head guy in the 'church' and the person absolutely refusing to co-operate. saying he was stupid. hahaha. i would have gone in there and been like "well, actually, excuse me.. this man has a first class degree in history from oxford/cambridge (i can't remember which one), yo".

he can manipulate me any day he likes.
i like the way he sort of gives off an air of being an every man, but you know that shit is heavy. i'd be sort of intimidated by his intelligence, though. he comes from good stock. PRESSURE.

Yeah, that some good tv there. Those people, boy, they are something else.
I felt so bad for the kid that got hit in the head with the drink. No kid deserves that, but of course it is his mother and father that put him in that position. They'll never ever see that, though. Scary folks.
Someone reminded me this morning that i'm due to go to Kansas soon on a business trip. Maybe I should keep an eye out for them.

I was also interested to see how they would rationalise one of their 'church' members falling ill to something like cancer. From what that guy was saying, cancer is just another example of God showing his wrath against sinners. But statistically, it's possible that one of them could fall ill but surely not, as they are all righteous and full of God's work etc?!

I was also hoping that they got on the plane for their picketing trip and their air steward just happened to fit the stereotypical camp mould so they would start doing their 'God hates fags' routine, and then get kicked off the plane

I couldn't help but think how stupid that sounded.
I just wanted louis to say something like 'surely god would kill these (so called) fags directly and not the troops who are fighting for for the fag loving usa'?
Sometimes it can be quite frustrating watching louis tip toe around things, but then again that's just his understated style of interviewing I suppose.

i've been on godhatesfags.com. i even made someone go on it at work. hah!
they have these horrible animated gifs of whatever guy they are moaning about having died of AIDS for being a HOMO and RAPING CHILDREN, of their faces in FLAMES screaming "NOOOOOO". it is quite shocking.
if god hates fags then, by association, i am joining them in hell for all eternity. /texts flatmate asking if she wants to watch fingersmith tonight.

It was truely astonishing. I don't understand how they've not be shot or something.
Theroux's greatest asset is his ability to ask a probing question then not respond when they expect him too. Makes them talk themselves into a corner.

He has the ability to piss people off like no other interviewer I've ever seen.
Like when he vaguely implied to Michael Jackson's dad that his son could potentially be gay.
I'm convinced part of it is a technique but I just wonder how much of it is.

Maybe I missed something in the show, but how do they make money?
For the peeps who are scratching they're heads (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis_Theroux)
Maybe I missed something in the show, but how do they make money?
Each person gives 10% of their wage to the 'church'

I was wondering about that as well.
The first thought I had was donations but it's far too scary to think that people would give him money.
Could be old money combined with investments.
Considering the hypocrite nature of the man possibly in weapons manufacturers.

It was way messed up but compulsive viewing. The USA is a bit fucked up over "God" all round.
While I dont want to do anything innapropriate with his penis, I totally dig Louis. Loved all his stuff. Met him briefly (in Glasgow too Nastee!) and he's a thoroughly nice chap.

Ha! Wasn't there one that said FAGS EAT POOP?!
It was difficult but compulsive viewing. The woman thought she had an answer for everything, i could've smashed her face in when Louis made a valid point and she waffled on for a bit trying to defend herself and said "what else you got?" with a smug grin.

I met him 2 years ago after - of all things - a Motorhead concert at the Barrowlands.
He wasn't rocking out to The 'Head - that would have made him possibly so cool in my eyes my brain would explode.
He was staying at the same hotel as I was. The name of it escapes me now. I met him at breakfast but he was with a lovely lady so never bothered him much beyond "Hey Louis I love your stuff" stoopidness.
He said he loved Scotland - surely that gives you a better chance!

Ahah! I MET TYREZ FROM SPACED TOO BOB! That was only a couple of months back.
I've been on a good run recently - met Ian from Shameless in Dundee last week. I should write into Heat magazine or something...
