View Full Version : One thing about my job that sucks

Is that all of my coworkers are former jarheads. Yeah, so they say once a Marine, always a marine but I think it's a crock of brainwashed shit. During being a marine, your pay statement comes in the form as an les. During being a civilian after being a marine, your pay statement comes in a form known as a paystub.
Needless to say, my job is created by a former marine and he wanted the whole outfit to be nothing but marines till just recently. I'm like the only former army guy who works for them so of course I've got to put up with "army sucks, marines rule" bullshit and quite honestly, I don't give a rat's ass about my former military status because I've been out for 5 years.
Half of these guys I work with have never seen combat, haven't been to Iraq but yet I have as a civilian contractor. Also, half of them hated the marines while they were in, always complained and yet, once they get out, they're all like "I'm a marine, I rule, blah blah blah."
My dad was a marine and you know what? He's only mentioned being one a few times only from request from me and he didn't really want to tell me anything. He's seen and have been in the shit. He was a real marine. These guys I work with are posers.

Eat the apple, fuck the corps.
Of course it's all a crock of brainwashed shit, but that's exactly what holds units together and makes the Marines such a well-respected force. It's significant that the Marines are the only branch of the American military still divided into regiments, and it's natural that they still carry the swagger and bluster characteristic of the regimental system. So when these guys rag on you and talk themselves up, it's behaviour as a function of meticulously planned psychological programming. I doubt they know any other way to be.

it's like that in the History department. these guys are like, "quantitative history rules!!" and I'm all, "no way, qualitative all the way!"
they add up some statistics and suddenly they think the causes of the First World War can be put down to pure numbers! pffft, whatever!

The way I see it is, the less they see, the more they talk. Maybe they're upset that they haven't seen much being the stereotypical "killer" marine but yet haven't even been out of the states.
I actually work with a marine and he's still in as a reservist. He's an immigrant from Russia and he's been to the shit and it's cool because he never talks about it.

I feel your pain eric
Lately Ive been debating quitting my job because the people I hate there are starting to highly out-number the ones that I like, or can even stomach on a daily basis
but then I said to myself "self, just wait it out until you are part owner in about 5ish years and then you can just fire all their asses"
There was a first world war!?!
only the quantitative historians call it that. qualitative ones just call it the great war
(this post is pretty good FYI)

my workmates were idiots who i argued with a lot - particularly their political views on things. i just cannot listen the kind of intolerance that they spouted.

Well hot diggity damn. They may be some jarheads but my boss just called me and told me that I finally got the full time position I've been wanting.
I have a set schedule now, no more working blind and I've also got a 5 dollar an hour pay increase!!

I think that's kinda true in general. Like how the guy who boasted most about sex was the one who rarely got laid.

I started a thread about my crappy job not too long ago, but I'm too lazy to look any further. I sort of hate my job, but I have been promoted to supervisor, so I'm gonna stick with it until May, when I'll have to quit so I can take a nice long vacation with my boyfriend. I was looking for something else, but I would feel really guilty having to quit a month into it. I'll just stick with what I've got. And even though it's not great, the upgrade has made the day more enjoyable, since I get to boss newbs around. I trained three people at once. Yay! that will be a nice thing to put on a resume. The only bad thing is I don't get a payraise with my promotion. They only give raises in June, and I will be gone by then, but oh well. I was asked to work more hours too, which is nice, because I was down to under twenty, and I will be back to full time next week. So it's not all bad. Dunno what I'll do after I get back from my holiday though. Grah.
