is there any way to make microsoft word automatically put all of your footnotes in order? something's fucked up with this project i'm working on, we keep cutting and pasting sections together, and the footnotes keep going screwy. it's like, at a certain point in the document, the footnote numbers in the text stay in chronological order, but the footnote numbers in the uh, feet, i guess, skip from like 210-280, so there's a 70 number discrepancy between the footnote in the text and its corresponding footnote in the foot.

is there any easy way to fix this? just, some way to make word automatically make all of the footnotes start from 1 for the entire document? i'll be the hero of my class if i can fix this, it's been plaguing us from the beginning and we've been putting off fixing it forever...but it's due friday

Insert menu:

Footnote - then choose 'options'

It will let you put in all kinds of variables for your silly footnotes.

A similar thing can be done for your page numbers.

You know, I think you're right.

How unfortunate.

I have Office 2000, and it'd be super easy to solve your problem with it.

:(

(Did I mention that my homework involves coloring? Well, it does.)

hey bob, i'll try and fix your problem if you write one of my papers for me

they are 5 pages each, that shouldn't be hard for you, right?

it's supposed to put them in order. i don't know what else to say.

i know, that's what's got me so confused. for the most part, it doesn't matter if we copy and paste shit together, the footnotes stay relatively composed. but here and there, they go nuts

for example, footnotes 21-28 are completely missing. they exist in neither the feet nor the text. they just aren't there, it skips from 20-29, and stays in sync.

then in other parts, the text stays in numerical order, but the feet skip. but apart from the fact that the numbers don't match, the footnotes stay in order.

there's like 300 of them, so fixing them manually is kind of an unattractive option.

i think i figured out what's going on, to some extent -- it's got to do with tracking changes. it seems like when you track changes, especially deletions, the footnotes don't actually get deleted until you accept the deletion...so there won't be any footnotes in the text until you accept the deletion...then it goes back to normal or...something. i dunno it's dumb, but it worked, at least for the disappearing footnotes

he may read it, but not necessarily answer. i'm still waiting for him to tell me how to fix my cd burner drive.

Bob --

Maybe you should try a Word forum or something. When I have problems with FrameMaker, I go to a FrameMaker user's forum.

I restrained from being a real smartass just now, so you can thank me for that.
