What's it like? What sort of level are people there usually at in terms of drink/drug addiction?

Wondering if I need it/there's any point.

I've never been, but known someone I think may have needed to go. This person was literally blackout drunk all the time. He was a bartender and somehow managed to hold a job but he drank as much as he served I'm pretty sure. He also got into blow and e and shit. I'm guessing to keep himself going.

Anyway, he landed in the hospital once or twice and eventually went home to live with his parents. I think he moved out of the state to live with his grampa now. Not sure he ever went to rehab but I'm pretty sure he's sober now.

Based on what you post here I wouldn't say you need to go to rehab.

I have been.

Is your insurance covering it?

So what did it consist of? No I don't have any insurance yet, I only recently turned 18. I doubt I'll go I just want to know what sort of shit they do there and how it could help someone. Part of me kind of wants a clean life and I'm wondering if that would help at all in terms of psychological dependence etc.

Depends on the place.

My doctor referred me to a place my insurance would cover, and I went and checked it out, and the place was depressing and seedy and -- judgment call -- the patients looked kind of sketchy. I talked to an intake person and there was zero connection, and I felt like I probably couldn't hack it at that place, so I never went in.

Weeks later, I found out there was another facility in a different city run by the same hospital, so my insurance would be good there. I checked it out and everything was waaaaaayyy better, so I wound up going there. It was a day program, which I wasn't thrilled with, but it was intensive and required lots of follow up. I wound up staying sober for a year and a half.

The short version I should have led off with is: shop around for what's available to you. If you're looking at free programs, you're more limited, of course, and you're likely to be thrown together with other folks with limited options, which, depending on what you find, might get weird. Like, I probably wouldn't be comfortable doing rehab at Salvation Army, but that's just me.

You might be able to get by with A.A. or N.A. or something. Again, shop around -- different group meetings can have entirely different flavors.

I know a girl who went through rehab pretty hard. She said it really turned her life around, but you have to want to be there.

From what I gathered, it sounds like it was mostly just learning how to enjoy life without drugs/alcohol.

Rehab usually is lots of sitting in groups, talking; sitting in groups, listening to educational stuff; sitting in groups playing socializing games; sitting in groups going over homework from the night before; going to the bathroom in groups for urine tests; going off for half an hour to talk mano e mano with your counselor.

My ex years back went to rehab. And they told her wonderful things like blame me for her drug problem. Personal responsibility comes out with a white flag

And I helped break another person out of rehab a few short months later

You hold hands and sing 'You can't always get what you want'.

Yeah, that's what I want. Maybe rehab is a bit extreme but I wanna be able to get through a day without drink or drugs and not feel bored/depressed. Also it might help me quit smoking.

Hypnotherapy would probably be a good avenue to pursue

Yeah but my friend's father said he knew someone like me at my age and he carried on drinking and smoking at the rate he was until he died at age 23. That gives me 5 more years, and I'm kinda thinking I'd like a bit more.
