Having been brought up by a militant Oasis brother and a die-hard Blur sister during the Britpop years, I was exposed to a lot from both bands (as well as many other classic groups of the era) during my formative years. Seeing as my brother was a rock star himself he used to get me to perform Oasis songs with him and shit for a laugh. So I pretty much grew up an Oasis boy (plus the fact Liam and Noel are so much cooler than poncey Damon Albarn).
But yeah recently I've copped a few Blur albums and re-listened, it's like watching videos of my childhood, so many memories. I'm starting to think that they aren't half bad. In fact they're pretty sick. I'd even go as far as to say There's No Other Way is now one of my favourite songs.
What do you people think of them?

I haven't heard as much Blur as I'd like, they're on my list of bands to listen to more. Along with Beck and Brand New (I heard them for the first time a few days ago and thought they were pretty damn good).
But yeah, from what I've heard, Blur is awesome.

I was told by a girl I was crushing on in high-school that Damon Albarn was a genius. I didn't believe it to be true, and I took exception to him wearing DCs at the time (1997).
Time has passed, and I really enjoyed 13 and especially Think Tank (which I made a thread about). I enjoy Albarn's Gorillaz work, and like the 'big' songs from Blur early on (Boys and Girls and so on).
So I accept that Albarn isn't that bad, and Blur aren't that bad. But my wife has sweeter cans than that girl ever did.

I've been an avid fan since 1995 so what can I say more I love them, though I miss Graham.

There's no contest whatsoever: Blur trumps Oasis on all angles.

I don't know about that.
13 is one of my top 10 favorite albums.
If Blur and Oasis were hanging off of a cliff and I only had time to save one, I'd save Blur.

as much as it pains me to do so, I'm gonna have to back up Brett Lambert on this one. they may pose the hardest, but Oasis were never as talented or interesting.

This quote from The Guardian (http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,1993177,00.html) is spot on;
"To think Albarn was once compared unfavourably to Liam Gallagher. These days, that seems a bit like comparing David Bowie to Les Gray of Mud"

^haha true. the recent output of both camps really ends any debate. while Oasis put out the same old garbage, Albarn is consistently putting out interesting music from a variety of angles.

their stuff is ok and i had a blur album back then but all together dont find their songs too thrilling..
though they are still better than oasis
13 and Think Tank are amazing albums. I hadn't even gotten a fraction of that feeling when I first listened to Oasis' stuff. And the brother with the uni-brow is kind of weird looking.

Blur have made a lot of essential albums. Parklife, The Great Escape, 13, Modern Life is Rubbish and Think Tank are all must-listens. The Great Escape especially, which I think is one of the must underrated albums of the 90's.

i.e. good music died when I turned 37...
I must say I got fed up with Oasis after the second album and from Blur I liked the first one, and hated the era after Parklife (especially Girls and Boys or whatever), but I do prefer Albarn's work with Gorillaz (oh yeah that's not Blur...) much more than what Oasis have done resently. But I'm a bit partial to my views as well...

Blur > Oasis
The fact that Damon is out there still doing completely different side projects proves that he is a veritable talent

Damon was on XFM last night being the resident DJ. He played some really random shit. And I do mean shit. He played some obscure calypso and kraut rock and other boring stuff. And every other song was one of his own, which kinda made me think he was blowing his own horn a bit.

They are required to spin their own shit.
