"What's Right with Maryland" (http://www.thenation.com/blogs/edcut?bid=7&pid=184463)

Seems like a great idea IMO, the beginning of the end of an out-dated election system.......or is it, based on some of the readers' comments under that article.

Anybody here have an opinion on this issue?

btw, Maryland also is a believer in the "living wage" issue (y) as discussed in this same article. Of course, some of the conservative types don't like it.*

* Circuit City sure doesn't seem to like such thinking (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/business/steffy/4704259.html)

Late last month, Circuit City fired 3,400 employees — many of them salespeople — because they made too much money.

Circuit City graciously will allow the fired workers to reapply for their old jobs after 10 weeks, provided they agree to accept lower pay.

Few companies have been so transparent in proclaiming their employees disposable and their skills worthless.

In announcing the firings, Circuit City said the move was designed to cut costs by eliminating workers who were paid above the prevailing market wage for their role.

They earned between $10 and $20 an hour, according to the New York Times. That's hardly exorbitant when you consider the national average hourly wage is about $15 an hour, according to the nonpartisan Economic Policy Institute.
