I don't know if I should be happy or sad. But before I figure that out, I'm going to go change my kid's nappies, and then take a wittle nappy of my own, but not until I eat some dinner. I hope I don't make a mess while eating and have to use a nappy, because we are almost out of them. NAPPY.

Is our society really worried about teaching kids tolerance?

I live in very conservative religious area but I have heard more homophobic and racist remarks than ever. I think ignorant & racist parents are still handing down hateful thoughts. I keep hearing----our young people don't need to hear such offensive language. I agree but our society is full of a bunch of liars and hypocrites.

Oh, and by the way.....Imus is a corpse.

I hope none of the girls on the team listen to popular hiphop, there's more misogyny in their lyrics/intentions than what Imus said and they'd be hypocrites for saying what he said was horrible.

Now that this trend is started, let's get Limbaugh off the air and stop buying books from Coulture

That's not the point... while not much better when a rap artist says the word Ho. 1) it's not a political or news report, it's a song, and 2) it's referring to a prostitute or one of equal measure, not a college educated top level athlete.

I had no clue who the hell Imus was until I started listening to Stern back in the day. I didn't make it over to Sirius, but I figured he still hated him and his ranch.

How is nappy racist?

How is nappy racist?
It was "nappy-headed" which is an old-fashioned and unfavorable way to refer to people with brown skin and afros.

It was combined with "hos" as in "nappy-headed hos." How is that not racist?

It was used to refer to women who are african american and who are not prostitutes.

It was used by an old white guy.

This isn't a close one.

Also: This isn't about the young women and how they feel. This is about the guy who said it and whether the public at large wants to support his broadcast career.

Howard said today there is a difference between racial humor and being racist.

I hope Imus doesn't end up on Sirius.

You need to make it over to Sirius. The show is at a new level...better than ever. Free and creative.

If you've heard the actual audio of him saying it it's actually kind of funny.

He says something like "Look at them, those women look rough, some of them even have tatoos. Those are some nappy headed ho's." It's still wrong but it was just the way he said it basically.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt when people were calling him racist but when he went on the radio and talked to Al Sharpton he was on the phone with an African-American woman and started arguing with both of them and said "I can't get anywhere with you people". Al stopped for a second and said what do you mean you people? Imus quickly said "You two", don't try and play that off on me, "that's jive."

So in short, he's racist and stuck in the 70's.

Um, no. I don't know if you realize this, but not everyone on the Lady Rutgers basketball team is black.

And by the way, nappy was first and mostly a term used to describe the texture of hair, usually unfavorably. Annotating it to race is purely subjective.

I have the antidote;

Check your local listings and tune in each evening for a full 3 hour dose, in about 2 to 6 weeks you should feel much better, many will enjoy full recovery. This salve should begin working immediately with varying degrees of bitterness wearing off in just a few listens. Tesh (http://www.tesh.com/ittrium/visit?path=A24x0x1y1xa5x1x76y1x3e70x1x65)

SIDE EFFECTS & WARNINGS: The most frequent side effects of Tesh are drowsiness, fatigue, and ataxia (loss of balance). Rarely, Tesh causes a paradoxical reaction with excitability, muscle spasm, lack of sleep, and rage. Confusion, depression, speech problems, and double vision are also rare side effects.

The only reason I care about this story is that free speech and opinions are being attacked. Our society is growing more conservative and touchy by the day.

Read this article which was written by Jason Whitlock an African American columnist.
http://www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.html

I love this quote from the article.....Imus is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim.

The Imus flap is about hypocrisy. I always thought my generation would look at people as neighbors and not judge people by color. The problem is that old one toothed rednecks and old radical black leaders that lived through segregation will not let our young people move on. Censorship and race baiting is horrible and it is here right now. Our kids are being bombarded from all sides with stinking thinking.

Oh, and Imus is a corpse.

I could be wrong, but I'm sure there are greater cases of injustice going on somewhere that should be getting more resources and attention than this crap.

You mean like Darfur?

Oh, that's just silly.

That reminds me, this caller to a morning talk show said that he now gives all white Dallas Cowboy fans permission to say the N word. And then invited them down to 5th Ward to try it out.

Ah, the 5th Ward.....home of the Geto Boys. I bet Scarface didn't get all upset about Imus.

I think most of todays martyrs are really victims.

The real leaders are not on Larry King talking about Don Imus. They probably don't watch Larry King.

You know what? I was watching Anderson Cooper last night. He did not give much coverage to Imus and he did not cover Anna Nicole. How dare Anderson!

I'm sure Imus has said a lot worse things more deserving of getting fired than "nappy headed hos." I mean, really. yawn. who cares? while i do think it's a stupid thing to say, free speech, anyone? and while i am in full support of all/most civil rights and against bigotry, i think it's sad when special interest groups can suppress free speech by causing a larger uproar than is needed.

I mean, what about that "Dr". Kamau Kambon who literally called for the execution of all white people live on C-Span? Where was the uproar about that? And I'm not saying there should have been an uproar about that. There just shouldn't have been an uproar about so me old fart named Imus either. It's not important. There are bigger issues facing the black community than some shock jock.

I've never heard "nappy-headed" used to describe an Aryan.

Well then, you must not watch Flavor of Love, where "New York" called the white girl who spit in her face a "nappy headed wig wearing (bitch or ho, I don't remember)".

Clearly the comment was what you WANTED it to be about.
