Who is more annoying?
Book Snobs = "Shakespeare was refering to the Columbine shootings when he wrote this [insert some pretentious misused shakespeare quote] and in turn it affected this major characters' relationships because they were so heartbroken about the devastation that happened."
Music Snobs = "My taste in music is SOO much more superior to everyone else. The pre-1972 Dylan is so much better then the post 72 Dylan and he shouldn't have gone electric at the Jazz festival and how can you possibly listen to that drivel that they play nowadays and blahblahblah"
Tough call I know.

Your avatar makes me vomit in my mouth a little.
Oh, and...I'd go with book snobs, just because they use a little bit of knowledge they learned in Literature 101 and act like that makes them the ultra-authority in everything that is books. I have a friend or two that will say "If you've ever taken World Lit, you'd know that...*insert comment no one gives a shit about but makes them feel like they're smart and smug here*"
It's obnoxious. Music snobs are a little less annoying in the fact that they at least get their knowledge from Rolling Stone or whatever else, and they know they can't say "If you read Vibe, you'd know that..." because it sounds really dumb.

^Yeah. Like, oooh. Congratulations, you accidentally found out about something before I accidentally found out about something. That makes you so much greater than me. Because seriously, you don't go out searching for the bands you find and like, they just somehow get introduced to you. So what's there to brag about?

sometimes i say that, but its always about a band that i don't like anymore. and its more of a "i remember before they were popular and i liked them for some reason" because i really dont understand why so many people like them, becuase i stopped caring about them

I'm kind of a jack of all trades, master of none sort of person. I'm also really forgetful of names and titles. but I can hang pretty well in a conversation about music or books sometimes because I remember themes and styles...just not the names always. often, I also know about something random and obscure that is impressive somehow. but really it comes from me just not having any friends as a teenager, and kind of just stumbling on stuff and learning about things on my own in a haphazard way.
so like, when my friend texted me a picture of himself in front of a swirly background that's on the cover of one of elliot smith's albums...I was like, "uh, cool", and cort was like, "elliot smith!" and I was like, "oh, um, yeah, I don't know that kind of stuff". I mean, I know who elliot smith is, but I couldn't tell you much about him. I was too busy listening to and researching hardcore bands when he was alive and making things.

*ahem* I'm pretty sure most music snobs go out of their way to search out whatever obscure bands are out there so they can roll their eyes at the masses when they become popular 1 or 2 years later. :p

I just thought of another catagory of snob.
Wine Snobs
My girlfriend's cousin loves to give a dissertation on the wine he brings every holiday we all get together. So annoying!
"You must try some of this Chiante, I made it myself. It's quite dry. I also made a Pinot Grig this season but I thought it would be too fruity for the meal"
Yeah, he annoys everyone with that shit.
PS. Don't even get me started on "Food Snobs".

Wine snobbery? You mean like THIS little gem:
Mano Mano
Type: Tempranillo
Year: 2005
From: Spain
Price: $11
Tempranillo is often used as a blending grape, most notably in riojas. However, Mano Mano has constructed a full-bodied wine that not only stands on its own but soars. This tempranillo is one of the most unique I've had. It has a wonderful deep, lingering chocolate malt note with smoky hints of tobacco, coffee and leather in the back. Long finish that retains that interesting maltiness.
Rating (1-10): 9.5

That statement in itself was borderline music snobbery. Where does one go to get a pedigree to listen to, enjoy, or appreciate a certain type of music?

Music Snobs generally can't play music, and Book Snobs can't really write, much the same way Wine Snobs make poor viticulturalists.

dr deaf isn't really a music snob, he's just a brat about it. "oh, you didn't start listening to p.e. until apocolypse 91 came out? i was rockin them back in blah blah blah." my bad. i was busy listening to all kinds of music you weren't into at the time because i'm older. isn't the point that i found it and loved it and bought the older ones? so what if i had to backtrack? he was so typecast into one genre for so long that he missed out on a lot of good stuff (like radiohead).
oh, and he gets all pissed off if he thinks i should like something based upon liking something else, and then i don't. it's a personal attack on him or something.

If they do, then they should be dragged out into a back alley and shot. I mean, yeah, it's cool to discover stuff early and like it. I'm proud to say I found Coldplay in '00 and like them then. But if I meet someone who says they discovered Rush of Blood to the Head and started liking them then, I'm not going to scoff at them for not finding out about them earlier, or act like I'm better than them because I've liked them longer. I mean, we're both on the same team, right? I've never gotten why liking bands longer has been a competition.

It has nothing to do with the above, Im talking people who judge music genres (ex:Rap) as being terrible when, in reality, their overal knowledge on the genre could be (and usually is) limited. Not a hard point to understand if you need futher proof go watch the O'Riley Factor or Hannity and Combs.

If someone thinks "Rap", or any artistic expression is terrible, it's their opinion. No sense in debating the issue. I usually try to distance myself from people with such narrow views.

Music snobs no contest. Book snobs are so geeky that I just giggle a little to my self and say 'shut the fuck up man and do another shot'. Music snobs are annoying about 80% of the time and I find myself literally walkign away from them as they talk quite often in bars. Airesse excluded, she's alright in my book.

music snobs are just boring. that whole juvenile tribalism that comes with associating with certain types of music is pretty stupid.
I'm no snob but I'm just really intolerant of music I don't like. I've been driven out of bars and stores because of the bad music they play. I don't really take that intolerance into my interaction with others though, they can like all the shitty music they want for all I care.

Snobbism in and of itself just sucks. But, yeah, I agree with Dreddy T -- the willfully blind musical snobbism, especially of youth but not limited to them, is really nerve-wracking. The sort of line-in-the-sand "Rap sux!" or "Disco sux!" or "Speedcore Rulz!" where the person ghettoizes their sensibility and just refuses to allow themselves to be open to anything that doesn't conform to one narrow, narrow view... it's incredibly annoying and unreasonable.
