Recommending me some electric, techno, trip hop in this here thread a ma jigger. I'm trying to fill up my Archos and I'm pretty much set in my rock/metal department but I love some trip hop and whatnot but I only know of bands such as Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, Infinite Mass, Massive attack.
If you can direct me towards some scratch my head, oh my god, shake my ass trip hop or what not, I'll be mighty obliged to give it a whirl. Pls, thx.

DJ Shadow (especially his album with UNKLE called "Psyence Fiction")? DJ Krush?
They sort of, kinda, fall into your "trip hop" category. But I guess you'll probably all ready know of these two.

I've heard Kid Koala associated with trip-hop, but I'm not 100% sure that fits. Regardless, he's a DJ and a damn good one at that.

It's a fucking stupid name for a genre. Things like Krush and Shadow are hip-hop, they're just not 'street' enough for most penis-touchers.
Definitely get Psyence Fiction, and anything on Ninja Tune.

"i have excellent news for the world...there is no such thing as trip hop, it does not exist...it's a figment of a lame cunt's imagination..there was never any such thing as trip hop, it's a polite thing to say when you were trying to say you weren't into boring old rock n roll but you didnt dare say rap because you were afraid of getting kicked out of the fuckin party and they wouldnt let you smoke up their weed anymore. there's hip hop, there's rap music, theres gangsta rap, theres g-funk, theres miami bass, bounce, west coast, east coast, underground...but trip hop doesn't mean shit" - some dude that sounds like michael j fox at the start of kutmasta kurt/kool keith/motion man - masters of illusion

Two disc K&D sessions is the shit too, but that's more dubby than most recommendations.
I always thought of Portishead as soul music, myself.

Mr Scruff is amazing live!
Amon Tobin - Supermodified
Given everything I know about you (read: weed:p ) I think you'll enjoy this album quite a bit. Someone mentioned Psyence Fiction by UNKLE which is one of my favorite albums of all time, also.

excuuuuuse me for using the term "trip hop". I just think it's suitable for what I'm looking for. Stuff that just sounds good when feeling rather ripped.
Good job so far though. I've got an UNKLE cd, not sure which one it is and I've also got Push the Button and a DJ Krush cd as well.
It's good to hear Portishead again. I almost forgot about them. I'm checking out Aphex Twin, Sneaker Pimps. Well, everything that's mentioned here, I'm giving it a try.
Thanks and keep em coming.
Sneaker Pimps.
Bonus points for knowing where they got their name (hint: Grand Royal).
I think Heiress said something about her brother being obsessed with that band for a while. Why I remember that comment who knows.

Just got two Kid Koala cds today in the mail, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, and Some of my best friends are Djs.
I don't know about him being trip-hop, but he sure is trippy, he's definitely got his own style. Amazing.

man did I have an adventure with some furious fungi when I originally wrote this thread.
Anyway, got some great recommendations here. I'm really diggin Kid Koala and of course DJ Shadow.
I've heard of Aphex Twin but never heard them and dammit, I can't stop laughing when I hear them for some reason. Especially the milkman song.
Not having much luck in finding some David Axelrod though. I'm curious as to what he sounds like.
Currently mellowing out to Thievery Corporation.

I was thinking Thievery Corp. but I don't know I'd call it trip hop, exactly.
You need The Beta Band The 3 EPs. "Dry the Rain" is a trip hop classic.

All I used to know was techno and the stuff I'm looking for isn't quite exactly techno.
Whatever the genre, I gives a rat's ass. People are helping me out and it's goin good.

Yeah, I'm expressing myself too. If you want to recommend me some good nottriphopstupidtermofagenretechnostuff then it would be great but, it's already been cleared after the first post that trip hop is a dumb term.
And dammit, I keep forgetting to put that damn circle r thing in my threads.
