On friday I was sitting in school in my art room because I had a painting to do and I was the only one in there. (I was supposed to be in study hall but my teacher lets me go in there to paint alone because he trusts me.) I had been there for a while when I heard the supply room door open and a few seconds later this boy comes out - so I thought, maybe he was just in there because he was doing a painting/he came from the other class to get some supplies, then my friend follows him. So naturally, my mind jumps to - EW. They were doing something else, but she comes over and assures me that that wasnt the case they were merely STEALING ART SUPPLIES, and not only art supplies but really expensive air brushing equiptment because the kid is a tagger.
Now, the question is - do I rat her out or not? If he went in there and checked his supplies, hes gonna think that it was me because im the only person allowed in there besides my friend Janet and hes had her as a student for years, he knows she wouldnt steal it. So should I rat out my friend?
I was thinking I should just tell him that I saw some random walk out of the supply closet when i was inside, that or i'll tell Janet who I saw, and let her tell him, that way they'll get busted but my friend wont hate me?
What do you think?

Until he comes to me and blames me for stealing a whole bunch of equiptment?? as much as I love being expelled. This is already my 5th school, I dont need another one.

Not to mention I have a rough track record when it comes to schools and getting kicked out. I wish I could just rat out the dude who was doing the actual stealing but I dont know who he is.

Just go ahead and tell what you saw, like you said, the last thing you need is getting expelled because of them thinking you did it.

Being an art student, I know how expensive it can be, the cost of those supplies are paid by the students and thefts raise the cost, accountability of the students and accessibility to the studios.
Definitely say something, do it anonymously

I was kinda wanting my friend Janet to tell him so i dont loose two of my best friends. But im worried that the girl will try something - like try and fight Janet, or me. Well, im not worried because I can take care of my self - but im worried about Janet. I think im gonna talk to her tomorrow and see where it goes.

wait until you are asked before you say anything.
and you know what? fuck those two for putting you in this position in the first place. you owe nothing to them.

those people are dicks, they shouldn't be your best friends.
high school is stupid. tell your "best friends" to put the shit back or else you're the one who's going to get fucked. and say it like angry, not pleading. aggressive like, "hey you fuckers, put that shit back or else they're gonna think it was me. steal shit from the art store or something!" that way they'll still think you're cool. if they refuse, like beth says, don't say anything to your teacher unless you're asked. it's not likely that he'll discover the theft right away anyhow. if he does ask, just say you might have seen some kids you didn't know in the room, but it seemed like they were just getting supplies for class.
is that the moral thing to do? no. the moral thing to do would be to tell your school counselor (if he/she is decently cool) what happened, and then have your counselor tell the art teacher, keeping you anonymous and the information you've provided confidential. (y)
ah, the life a teenage witness, it's quite a roller coaster!
