I know the obvious choice would be sabotage or gratitude, but im going with Alright Hear This!
I played this song at a irish pub over the weekend and it got plenty of headbobbing action...(from the back section)(y)

I would have to say that the backwards bassline in Paul Revere had the subwoofers in my El Camino going mad crazy back in the day.

High Plains Drifter has a ridiculous line of low bass.
Paul Revere does too.

The bassline to 'The Scoop' is pretty cool. It might not be as heavy as some of the others but the way they've taken that jazzy bass run and mixed it with the funky breaks sends me to syncopated heaven.
I love to play grattitude on my bass, it's such an easy hook to play and it looks and sounds impressive.

Hard to choose but I just love the bassline on Futterman's Rule. It makes me happy for some reason :)
And I also like The Scoop bassline. (y)

word, i was originally goona say "the scoop", but then i thought of "bboys makin with the freak freak", "alright hear this", "sabrosa", etc. and decided the whole IC album needed a shout out on this topic.(y)
but yeah, the scoop bassline is ridiculous, not to mention the song as a whole is a bit underrated.

what's that? never heard of it before?

high plains drifter has a pretty simplistic bassline; works well in the track but nothing special IMO. those 808 hits, though, those are what make the low-end happen in that jam. they do things for me that i can't even put into words....

The part in "The Scoop" where it's just the bass playing without the drums is one of my favourite parts of any song EVER!

speaking of old funk basslines, check out "25 miles to go" by Edwin Starr. That bassline is the jam.
also add Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4".
Just thinking out loud here, if this album goes down the direction I anticipate, they should consider adding a horn section. Live bands with a horn section are pretty dope.

pretty old thread, but i feel the need to comment and honor MCAīs masterpiece basslines (even some of them are "only" sampled):
- Gratitude (i love the fuzz sound)
- Sabotage (also a nice fuzz sound but kind of hard to play the muted tones)
- Alright Hear This (excellent bass line)
- Futtermanīs Rule (also a nice riff)
- Jimmy James (R.I.P. Hendrix)
- Shake Your Rump / 33% God (that short slap part sampled from Rose Royce)
- Root Down (maybe my all-time favourite)
- Lay It On Me (of Paulīs Boutique album, GREAT bass line)
MCA was one of the most underrated bass players i guess. For me as a bassist myself the best Beastie Boys era was 2007 when they did the "Special Instrumental Gala Event" ... iīm so glad i had the chance to see 2 of those gala events (Cologne/Germany & NYC Hammerstein Ballroom 2007). Really amazing shows ... never forget.
