Really good movie.

Scott Frank, who adapted OUT OF SIGHT, wrote and directed this. Joseph Gordon Livett (sp?) and Jeff Daniels.

It sounds hokey -- Livett plays a guy who's had head trauma and has problems with his frontal lobe, which screws with his memory a bit like Leonard Shelby in MEMENTO. Except Chris Pratt's life is much more mundane, and he works a job as a janitor in a bank, hoping he can maybe work his way up to bank teller. Or maybe work in a restaurant with his roommate, played by Jeff Daniels.

Anyway, some local thugs befriend Chris, making him a little less lonely, and pulling him into intrigue.

Again, it sounds hokey, but the way the whole thing's done is really good. Kind of emotional at times, which surprised me but shouldn't; Gordon Livett's a really good actor, and he plays this guy really well. There are times when his brain just starts jerking at him, and his impulse control is shot, which is painful for him, because he's all about trying to keep control now.

Anyway. Good stuff. The movie's got a good look to it, too. Well done.

It's probably in about 100 theaters right now, like Brick, like Mysterious Skin... but if you can catch it or remember it when it comes out on DVD, give it a shot. It's got a methodical pace, but there's a purpose to it.

Has anybody else seen it?

I'd say it's about an 8 out of 10. This is the first movie I've seen released this year that I've gotten excited about. Jeff Daniels is great, too.
