Phew. I am getting addicted to this.
55 minutes of dirty, growling funk. John going sputtering nuts on guitar... Miles even works in a little sitar.
Damn. Just... damn.

Yeah it's wicked. I only recently bothered to check it out, shouldn't have waited.

If porn were actually done well, this might be the soundtrack.

Sampled himself, too. It's like Check Your Head in some ways. Like how they pulled parts of other jams together to make Something's Got to Give.

That producer... Tom something... yeah, he would cut all those tapes together into these tapestries.
I've got a copy of The Complete Jack Johnson, and it's pretty amazing. Some of the grooves could've held up on their own, but the way they get edited to A Tribute to Jack Johnson is a real feat.

Creeped you out? Why?
I guess I liked it so much right off the bat that what's dark about it doesn't seem threatening.
But, yeah, I think this record takes place at night. I don't think it's a death record, though.

it's very dark, if you ask me. lots of dissonant chords and scales, throbbing bass parts, and riotous drum patterns. many of his electric trumpet lines are fashioned to mimic a human wailing in agony.

Supposedly it was really hated when it first came out. Jazzheads didn't think it was jazz.
It's sort of jazz, but more grungey funk jazz stuff.
It's really worth buying, just off the tip. Seriously.

I didn't even know this was coming out:
The Complete On the Corner Sessions (http://www.newyorker.com/arts/reviews/recordings/2007/09/24/070924gore_GOAT_recordings_frerejones)
I'll have to snag that. I got the Complete Jack Johnson Sessions and it's pretty great.

On the Corner is one of my favorite albums. Crazy street voodoo music. This album can summon evil spirits. There isn't much else like it, in any genre of music.
