Why do you do this?
I couldn't get any tickets on the Pre-sale because the website wouldn't load,
They need to play more shows in my city,
They need to pick up the instruments,
They need to do more hip-hop,
They sold out to corporate money because they played a private show,
Do you really think Yauch is logging in to remedy your complaint?

People offering objective opinions is a good thing to have in any society. It just seems like no matter what gesture the Beasties try to offer to their fans, there always seems to be someone who feels slighted.
"I couldn't get any tickets because the pre-sale website was overrun" seems a bit out of the Beasties control. It happens, and it sucks you couldn't get in, but what exactly do you think the Beasties or the Admins of this site can do about it?

I think some people just come here to talk with other fans about the band. I don't think they write e.g. they didn't manage to buy tickets because they expect the band to do anything, they're just sharing their experience, thoughts or whatever.
I think people who are realistic and spent some time here know they won't talk to band here.

I come here to see what the latest scoop is on my favorite band. I share info, insight and experiences when I can. I've developed quite a few Beastie friends, too.
What's more unusual than the complainers, are the folks that come to a Beastie Boys messageboard everyday but never visit BG or contribute anything semi-meaningful to a Beastie Boys topic.

You make it sound like he always did. I recall maybe three ocassions. One of those was a recurring appearance of about 2 days. And the threads fill up so quickly it's probably pointless for him to even post under his screen-name. No wonder he's using BeastieAlbum07/whichever one we accuse at the time.

I was online and exchanged few words with him too but I don't really count that. It doesn't happen everyday or every week.
What I mean is that most of us don't come here with a hope they will spoke to band, at least that's what I think.
Such meta-thread are useless - talking about messageboard on a messageboard.

I think the topic is a valid one. A discussion about the Beasties Boys MB and how a lot of threads about Beastie news turns into people whinning is Beastie related. Granted, it's outside the box a little bit.
Maybe it's kind of a reverse psychology game people try to play with the Beasties.
They think;
"I'll complain about something on here, and either one of two things will happen...
1. The band will acknowledge my complaint, and therefore acknowledge me, and my ego will be satisified by me thinking that I am on the same level as the band.
2. The band will ignore my complaint, and I will therefore be able to accuse the band of not relating to their fans and being sell-outs or something."
I see the Beastie Boys doing little extras for their fans, like the Pre-Sale for the Live Earth show. I wouldn't want them to give up doing stuff like that because of some irrelevant complaint. I was hoping making a thread like this would make people think about it a little, and hopefully stop some of the negativity.

There's a pretty dedicated crew of 20+ people or so that make up most of the posts around the Beastie General forum. And within that group, there are shit stirrers, shit sniffers, shit cleaner-upers, shit stains, rose-flavored shitters, and people who like to watch others shit. On a whole, we're pretty dysfunctional, but all of us have some appreciation for the Beasties. But that is often argued among us, too.
And whenever there is a buzz of something new, we usually pick up a few new members, get revisited by some old members and the bickering continues.
Most of us really don't think the band is going to pop on here and engage in our shit conversations.
All in a day's work. :)

That's because Yauch's new username is Rock On.
I sometimes feel that it's a pissing contest around here to see who the biggest fans are and how they feel entitled to entrance to shows and should be privy to info early on because of their dedication. Sometimes I think that the Beastie Boys continue to do random shit because they know it's going to irk certain people. They probably wager good money on guessing how many times so-and-so will piss and moan about something off the cuff that they do.
I kinda miss the days before the internet, where you had to wait in line at Ticketmaster with the rest of the early birds to ensure you got tickets AND good seats to your favorite concerts. That was proof of your dedication when you had orchestra seating. Ah, the good ol days.

Awesome post. I couldn't agree more.
I remember standing in line overnight many times for tickets, awesome memories.
I never quite understood the people who needed to be the first kid on the block to have the album, and went to the record store at 6 am the morning the album was released. Like who were you trying to impress by hearing it a few hours before I did? Was Yauch going to come out from behind a wall and reward you with some backstage passes to a secret-private show for being the first kid to buy the album, or being a bigger fan than I am?

Kinda sounds like your complaining, RockOn.
So you'll wait in line all night to buy tickets. But don't understand why someone would get to the old-fashioned record stores early before an album would sell out.

First week release of any type of media, be it movies or music, usually are on sale. I make sure that I'm at the place that has the best sale price when the doors open just to make sure they don't run out. I don't know about all of you, but I'm just a poor ole southern boy. Plus, we don't have 3 Best Buys and 4 Circuit City's in my town. I'm from a small town and we are lucky to have one of each.

Instant gratification takes too long.
The last two Beastie albums have been released while I lived in small towns. Fortunately for myself, I wasn't competing with 50 people out of a town of 2500 for the same album.

You must not be that old.
I recall being at the Tower Records midnight release of IC where it sold out. If someone decided to buy it on the "day" of the release they would have been outta luck. And there were only a handful of copies of HN left when I hit the record store on my lunch break in '98.
And there is a pretty complicated formula I use to judge how big a fan someone is. It's based on their join date, number posts, average # of posts/day, how often they post in BG vs. BF, there ability to bring news, insightfulness and commentary to Beastie-related topics.
Most importantly, I look at their fingernails. You can tell a lot about someone from looking at their fingernails. :D

Does that happen often to you where something gets sold out? Wouldn't the store have to offer you a rain check for the sale price if it did? I'd think with all the maketing analysis that goes on, they'd have a pretty good idea how much of an item to stock?

See, I'm not one of the "I need to be at the record store the day it drops" type person, so I wouldn't have known or cared if that happened. It wouldn't bother me if I got the album on day 2, or day 7 or whenever from when it dropped. I've truly never had the experience of hearing an album "Sold-out" though, UNTIL NOW.
I would imagine Rock On is at least 30 to be able to remember waiting in line overnight at Ticketmaster.

Most of the hardcore fans on this board are here to get info on the band and their projects. While there is no official info, we share tidbits, rumors, speculations, wishes, etc. with each other. And things can often get misunderstood, twisted and downright ugly between the members here.
But...most of the hardcore fans will be buying the album on the day of the release...or maybe downloading the album as soon as possible. Then a whole other level of discussion will occur.
You'll have everyone voicing their opinions and the cycle continues.
ohmygod, laver... you just described the definition of message board.

waiting in line to get the record on opening day doesn't always constitute that the person is looking for bragging rights for having it first, though. more often than not they're just super excited about hearing the new material.

I just love the fact that this forum exists where I can geek out passionately with others who share a similar interest. Plus there's this ever so slight chance that I can have any interaction with the band what-so-ever is titillating to say the least. The internet sure changed the fan/artist dynamic forever. I used to be only known amongst my lil circle of friends as the Beastie Freak... now the WWW knows it too. I don't know that the WWW cares necessarily. Now I'm not just the Beastie Freak. I'm a fellow Beastie Freak.
Regardless, people tend to hide behind the curtain of the internet with enormous balls willing to talk any amount of shit that will flow out of their fingertips. It just seems to be the way it is. Apparently being a Beastie Boy doesn't protect you from the shit slinging nor does being a regular ol fan.
As the old saying goes, if ya can't take the heat get outta the kitchen or something like that. Meh, did I make any sense? If I didn't I'm sure someone will happily come on here and tell me what a dipshit I am.

This is a pretty good example of what I'm getting at with this thread.
The Beasties aren't going to play your city because Laver and you come here and comiserate about it. The lack of support amongst your friends is probably closer to the reason. If they aren't selling records in your city, they probably aren't going to bother stopping there on a tour.
The answer to your problem is simple, urge all your friends to go out and support the band. If that strategy doesn't work, go out and buy them all copies yourself. :)

I do not imagine for one single second that my complaining about no tour date in my town will cause the Beasties to play my local club. I'm not an idiot. I'd also like the president and vice president to simultaneously resign, but I don't expect it to happen because I typed it on a message board. Most of the things I say each day are destined to have no impact on anyone, but I still get to express myself. WTF.
I suppose there are a handful of morons who post here in hopes of having the band read what they type, but the other 99% of us come here to interact with other fans. For me, one plus is that many of the other fans here have good taste in music outside of Beastie Boys.
The answer to my "problem" is indeed simple. I travel. And I see many, many other bands at home. :)
