have any of you nerds tried to sell your artwork on eBay before?

This is my first time trying it. I'm kind of scared, to be honest. I'm afraid no one will bid at all haha. But! I do have two watchers on it already and I just posted it late last night.

If you have sold art on eBay or know someone who has, how'd it go?

I put a painting online for $1600 and paid for an image in the search, etc., so it got expensive.

No bids at $1600, but a couple did contact me and we negotiated to $1200. They drove down to the Bay Area from Oregon to see it, brought cash, deliberated for a while, and decided it wasn't colorful enough.

Grrrr. I'd stated in the ad that the image on Ebay very closely matched in color, hue, etc., but they still thought it would be more colorful.

For what it's worth, I know someone who's bought two paintings from Ebay. Happy with one, not happy with the other. Once he got the painting, he realized that what worked as a small image didn't work so well in its full size.

I made images out of lots of badges and framed them. They went pretty quick.

Then I did a load of stencil art, all handmade and sold most of them.

Have you got a local gallery near you? They will ask for comission but it saves on the hassle of shipping your stuff across the globe. (y)

there are local bars that would show the work but I wanted to try eBay with one piece at least, then make another and see how it goes somewhere local.

the stuff I make tends to be kind of autobiographical. I keep a perosnal site/blog, it's small, but people do read it. Hence I'm trying it via eBay with the thought in the back of my head that if someone wants to bother reading a personal blog that they'd be more interested in this "personal" art, if that makes sense.

We'll see I guess!

You'd need to get the word out somehow. Either that or throw some keywords in there like WII ATHF RARE TMNT HILLARY DUFF MARIO BLOG EBAY PAINTING so it'll pop up when people search for stuff.

yeah I've been trying to push it and friends have spread it around. So far I do have one bid and 6 watchers! It's something at least :)

I looked at your MySpace bulletins and scoped out the auction and thought about bidding... then I decided having a self-portrait of a girl I know through the internet would be kind of creepy. Creepy on my behalf, that is. Don't ask me how... I just think it would be.

Having said that, if you decide to sell some more on eBay, keep posting them links and I'll keep scoping 'em out. I'll probably bid on/win one eventually.

here's the link in case anyone is curious (http://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbay)

and alruggs: next one can be yours! And SS, thanks, I will keep you informed.

And yeah I could see your point (creepy) haha. I plan on using other models (if any of my friends will do it for free) for stuff soon though so that may be less creepy.

Thanks dudes.

Hopefully this will help over the next few months or so to pay off some medical debt and get my behind back in school. (y)
