J.J. Abrams directs Star Trek movie
"Lost creator's new mission impossible--revive flagging franchise.
The original Star Trek. Star Trek is being revved up for another big-screen treatment, slated to appear in 2008. According to Variety, the new film will be directed by Lost creator and Mission: Impossible III director J.J. Abrams.
The new film will focus on the origins of the characters James T. Kirk and Spock, made famous in the original series and films by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, respectively. The script will be written by Abrams and MI3 writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
The film will feature the first meeting between the two characters, when they are cadets at Starfleet Academy, as a futuristic version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" plays on the soundtrack. The cadets embark on their first adventure together, a space mission wherein Kirk does his first sideways jump-kick. Presumably, younger actors will be cast in the roles."
Maybe they finally better "Wrath of Khan".....:)

I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it - but now I am!!! :D
Although I never watched all the old series really - I had every single TNG episode on videotape (until we threw the VCR out and got a hd-recorder :() Still saving for the DVD collection. Oh, and I still love my Data and Worf coffee cup. And I loved the fight between the dominion and the federation on DS9... Ok, that's my nerdy-post :o

Oh Pepp you gotta get into the begining!...The original series is profound not just for social commentary and an envisioning of a future, utopian like Earth culture but also because of it’s diverse theme base…they hit on everything from episodes based on Shakespearian themes to the gunfight at the O.K corral to Chicago Al Capone era gangster themes...when I saw the new spot last night and they said “James Tiberius Kirk” I smirked cause I’m such a enthusiast I remember in one of the very first shows Kirk fights an old academy pal and theres a gravestone that read “James R Kirk”…yep that’s how closely I watch…:o

he,he...another trinket for you: did you know that the "Live Long and Prosper" hand gesture and saying are actually from a passage in the Torah that is read at a boy's barmitzvah well wishing that the Rabbi does,Nemoy recalled it on the set one day when they were looking for way's to personalize Spock's character to the audience,Roddenberry dug and it became pop culture...;)

Yeah, I know. It's just the last 33 years passed so quickly ;) But if you want to ask me anything, I can look it up in my Star Trek encyclopedia. I had to buy it...
@ AceFace: I knew that as well. :) Wasn't that a question in a quiz-game (can't remember which though...)?

I think its kind of pointless to make a movie about star trek without spok or william shatner....
lets move on ever1
jack black will be captain kirk and ben stiller will be spock,
and the earth will open and out will come millions of swarms of flying spiders that will devour us all.
When he said his name after jumping out of the car in the beginning of the trailer I was sad that he didn't follow the car.
And I went "AAAAH!!" when I saw Sylar as Spock. Freaky!
