Mr.p was having a rant about this very same thing earlier today. He hates festivals. Actually it's not the festival he minds so much, it's all those other fucking people.

two reasons:

1. warm-up gigs so that they'll beon point for the real tour.

2. festivals are a good way to reach out to new fans from other audiences. for those not hip to the beasties, catching them randomly at a festival introduces their music to new fans that may not have previously been interested in catching a strictly beastie gig.

It's just like 1998 again.

Most of you lived through it and then you got your real tour.

They do these kind of concerts to show people they are back on the gigging scene so that when they announce their own tour they will have a bit of hype.

It generally exposes the band to a new group of assholes waiting to hear Fight for Your Right. The nicest thing these people can say about the Beasties is "They're weird". They should hang up the new fans idea. Festivals are a payday, though.

i completely disagree. these people you speak of undoubtedly exist, but they're definitely not the majority; not even by a longshot.

How are you measuring it? I'm only going off what I heard all around me at both festival appearances I went to. And it's seriously enough to put me off going to another one. A Beastie only show would still pull in the casual listener, but they wouldn't have spent all day chugging chemicals.

I'd rather a half-empty show full of people interested in hearing something, than a packed crowd of dipshits who think Jam Master Jay is their DJ, and that the guy wheeling out the drum-kit is 'Mikey-D'.

In my opinion, the disappointment was palpable at Good Vibrations, and I don't see how that is going to win over new fans. It's just a waste of time and energy. Me, I had a blast. Other people, not so much. And the local media wasn't very kind.

personally, i can care less if i'm the only cat up in the piece that's gettin' down. i appreciate the beasties regardless, but even the people i randomly meet and casually converse with have a natural respect for them. all i really talk about with friends and strangers is music, so you can assume the beasties come up often, but i've only come across a modest handful that have anything distasteful to say about the beasties.

not saying the circles i hang in are anything elite or special, but from my experiences the beasties get alot of love.
