Stoner rock. I'm sure people want to bash on me for the usage of this term, such as they did when I accidentally called hip hop-trip hop, hehehe.

Anywayhow my hiphop knowledge isn't as strong as my rock and roll and if anyone wants to disagree with me then tell me why there is a such band called Bongzilla with a song called "Weed Woman".

This style of music is probably the most artistic of this day. Little jamout sessions in the middle of the songs with just heavy riffage between the drums and bass, breaking down to some light guitar solo to face melting rhythm.

I'd have to say the all time founder of this music is Black Sabbath. I wouldn't want to think of them as a psychedelic band because I'd want to be chewing the spiders crawling off of the person's face sitting next to me while listening to them if I were on any face melting drugs. But yet, while on some weedage, they're quite easy on the eardrums.

As of now, I'd have to say that besides Clutch being my favorite stoner rock band, I'm giving the title to Orange Goblin.

Good grief.

Good Grief what? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoner_rock) And while you're at it, why don't you send some pics of you half nekkid in a tie to your favorite pedo-rock band Manowar. I'm sure you're the only person they'd send hand written letters to.

The real question is.......Do these musicians want to debate the fact that they're stoner rock? Who knows.

I for one, when I play, wouldn't mind if it were called that because I mainly play some stuff that when frizzled it gives a different vibe or feel than when sober but yet, it still rocks when sober.

Uh, no. Bands like Sabbath and Zeppelin aren't considered "stoner metal" or "stoner rock" but influences on whatever bands we'd call stoner metal.

No matter how the term is applied, I do like me some Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, and Fu Manchu.

Edit: Actually, wait a sec... where was it even implied that Led Zep would have any stoner rock connections?

I think bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin would deny it.

Black Sabbath, a band with a song called Sweet Leaf would most likely deny it. For sure they would.

Oh and Zeppelin would definitely deny it, right after they took a toke off of a joint that was tossed at their feet while playing a gig.

Fact is, both of those bands know that they play some music made for the mass amounts of weed that was taken in during their shows.

"Dazed and Confused" alone would probably qualify Zeppelin.

Will do and I'm also checking out Black Mountain.

Also, if you haven't heard of The Sword and Nebula- which has the former Fu Manchu drummer, they're worth having a listen to. Oh and for sure, Orange Goblin.

it's a dumb label for a pretty sweet genre. I'm a total sucker for big stupid riffs.

Brant Bjork's solo stuff is worth checking out. gets a bit noodlely sometimes and he's not a songwriter in the classic sense, but it's got some good riffs and a nice feel to it.

I tried to check out this "stoner rock" thing. But other than Monster Magnet none of those bands ever did anything for me... (n)

black mountain and dead meadow aren't stoner metal bands, ditto qotsa. if you like kyuss, see atomic bitchwax. but high fives for mentioning black mountain and dead meadow (y) you'll also probably dig the black angels, darker my love, and the warlocks.
