According to this article (http://www.albumvote.co.uk/news/article/2188.htm), the name of the new album will be The Mix Up and will be released June 25

Beastie Boys Name New Album

The Beastie Boys are expected to follow 2003's To The 5 Boroughs with a brand new album called 'The Mix Up'. Full details are still to be confirmed but the CD has been slated for the June 25 release.

The legendary New York Rappers will be appearing at London's Live Earth concert in July

so is this another rumor?

Interesting. It's quite a connotative album title, though. Although so was To the Five Boroughs.

In the states, 99% of albums are released on Tuesday's. Once in a while, someone will release their album on another day. I say this because I noticed June 25 is on a Monday.

The Mix Up refers to (or at least evokes) something musical. I don't know about that as a title. It's no 'We Be Stupid'.

read what it says here (http://mic-to-mic.blogspot.com/2007/04/beastie-boys-album-confirmed-for-june.html) (lb)

Several fans contacted us about a short article published by Albumvote.co.uk, a UK music site. The article reads:

The Beastie Boys are expected to follow 2003's To The 5 Boroughs with a brand new album called 'The Mix Up'. Full details are still to be confirmed but the CD has been slated for the June 25 release.

I sent an email to a few friends at the Beastie Boys' record label in the United States and asked if they could confirm the album title and release date.

One friend replied that the release date has indeed been set. The Beastie Boys new album will be released in North America on June 26, 2007. The information the label currently has for the album title is "TBD" (i.e., To Be Determined).

Although it's nice to have a confirmed release date, it's the secondary information my friend supplied in the email that got me excited. My friend writes:

6/26 release date, with festival tour then club tour to follow. That's all I know at the moment.

Go back and re-read that. Festival tour then club tour! Woo-hoo! Rejoice Beastie Boys fans!!

With a festival tour of Europe already planned for this summer, one can assume the club tour will be in North America this fall.

I remember before TT5B came out, an outside news source broke the story about how it's called To The 5 Boroughs, how its an all hip hop album and gave out the names of all the tracks...before it broke on the message board. So I'm guessing it's going to be the same this time around. We'll first find out from a random news source and then either minton or one of the boys who works at the site will be able to confirm for us.

Brother McDuff
04-25-2007, 03:57 PM
if it's an instrumental tour with club dates, i sure hope they advertise it as instrumental, otherwise it's going to be a bitch fighting for a limited amount of tickets with a buncha casual fans who'll end up being dissapointed anyway when they get there and it's instrumental.

Yes, plus music is apparently very expensive there.

MC Boulangerie

In Japan the imported cd costs less than cd produced in country. They add titles to the local cd to make them more attractive, because they are very expensive.

Fucking hell, it's only 2 hours old. (http://www.nme.com/news/beastie-boys/27933)

As a fan who knows the group, I am excited by Michael D's comments.

"We play instruments on the whole album, as opposed to sampling. There's more rock on there. If you know us you can trace the influences and they're not completely surprising. Someone who listens to us casually might think 'What the hell are these guys doing?'

I dreamed of some rock stuff in the early days. Here's hoping.

Jazz Odyssey: Written by Derek, this instrumental premiered at Themeland Amusement Park in Stockton, California, during the 1982 tour despite David's reluctance to "do a free-form jazz exploration in front of a festival crowd." As it turned out, only a sparse crowd was on hand to witness the rebirth of Tap sans Nigel. It may have been a good thing: Nigel is not a fan of jazz. "Jazz," he said in 1992," is just a series of mistakes without the 'oops.' " (LT) Nigel has also lambasted jazz guitarists for playing so soft. "I don't understand it. They use this bizarre tone on their guitars; it's like it's under a tub of water. It's like plup-plup-plup-plup-plup, like a little motor boat. But I think that's because they're old people, and they don't like the noise. And of course they play soft, so you can't hear them. Then they go, 'Yeah, I'm a great player.' 'Sure, mate. I've gotta take your word for it.' With me, I play loud. My manhood is right on the table. Examine it, pick it up, if you will." (GP) Derek: "Hopefully there's a bit of Jazz Odyssey in everything we play." (QM) Asked if the band would ever record Jazz Odyssey, Derek replied, "To record it, I think, would be to imprison a bird that must fly free..

I like the sound of that interview, but I have a couple of questions. Money Mark referred to the new stuff as Check Your Head Part II a few months back and this interview hints at a mix of that album and Paul's Boutique. Would it be possible to really resemble either of those albums without 1) lyrics and 2) samples (particularly Paul's). I'm sure it is possible, but I'm interested to find out how, exactly.

Mock metal group Spinal Tap to reunite

By JAKE COYLE, AP Entertainment Writer 1 hour, 31 minutes ago

NEW YORK - Spinal Tap is back, and this time the band wants to help save the world from global warming.

The mock heavy metal group immortalized in the 1984 mockumentary, "This is Spinal Tap," will reunite for a performance at Wembley Stadium in London as part of the Live Earth concerts scheduled worldwide for July 7.

The original members of Spinal Tap will be there: guitarist Nigel Tufnel (played by
Christopher Guest), singer David St. Hubbins (
Michael McKean) and bassist Derek Smalls (
Harry Shearer).
Rob Reiner, who both directed "This is Spinal Tap" and played the fake documentarian Marty DeBergi in the film, will also be in attendance.

A new 15-minute film directed by Reiner on the band's reunion will also play at the opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York on Wednesday. The slate for the opening gala, to be hosted by
Al Gore, was previously announced, excepting the Reiner short...

I can see it now... the free form exploration known as Jazz Odyssey, as envisioned by the innovators, a free for all collaboration between old and new...
