post a band that you've just gotten into, new or old!
Love Of Diagrams
i heard this band opening for Ted Leo the other weekend. i missed most of their set but when i came back inside i to hear them i was really blown away. they were really, really fucking good. i haven't been that impressed by a band since i was a kid. you know, when you hear an opening act for the first time and are so excited about them you go to the merch booth and buy all their albums and pins and shit. unfortunately for me but fortunately for my bank account i was already broke. but i made a note of their name.
the next weekend at Amoeba i happened to see their album on the new releases rack. after grabbing it i was surprised to see a sticker with a glowing review from Vice on it. how big was this act anyway? and that night i saw them being promoted on myspace. what the fuckies? anywho, got a chance to listen to it and it's definitely worth picking up. spaced out, catherine wheel-ish guitars, classic punk drumming, hard basslines reminiscent of DFA and early sleater-kinney vocals. of course i dug it. i predict a huge wave of indie appreesh, then a rolling backlash and then a really pretentious sophomore album. can't wait. recommended track: "trouble". check 'em out. Catfish Haven
saw their video for "Tell Me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG0VfemFzEU) on an episode of Subterranean i had recorded. kept finding myself going back to it to watch them. so damned catchy and danceable. steger picked up a promo copy (used, $8!) at Amoeba and i promptly stole it. it's pretty good listening. the guy's voice is so raw, so emotional. love it. "crazy for leaving" is probably my other favorite track so far.

Sound Team's Movie Monster (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:gzfqxqtdldfe). Nothing all that earth-shakingly original, but I like it.

Sonic Youth
They're not new to anybody else probably, but I just recently started listening to them and I love it.

Well here's a band I used to really like. But then forgot about them and just heard this song in this tricks sampler after watching all my old videos the other day, so I'm back into them again, I guess this kinda counts.
Guano Apes.
Click for a listen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPfLReBmycU)
Not the official video.
I remember when they were first played on dutch radio, and noone really knew if the singer was a girl or a bloke. It turned out to be a 5'5" blond girl with a voice and a presence that could scare even the toughest guys.
I've seen them live in 2000 and they kicked serious butt. Shame they never made an album like their first again.

I'm really getting into 65daysofstatic and similar bands. A friend of mine is into this whole postrock biznitch and he dragged me along to a trail of dead gig. I thought it was awesome and it opened up a whole new world for me. Istrumental music that you actually have to pay attention to. I notice that without the lyrics I experience the music differently, somehow more intense, because you're not being side-tracked by lyrics and everything is in the music itself.
Any recommendations on this genre would be highly appreciated.

King Crimson. I've known about them for quite a while but never got my lazy ass around to actually giving them a listen.
They're pretty trippy and yet powerful enough to produce some head bobbing. I'm really digging 21st Century Schizoid Man.

New still the Thermals (http://www.thethermals.com/)
Old, the Allman Brothers Band. Just discovering Duane Allman's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duane_Allman) killer guitar work.

Ok, I'll give slint a go. I have 65days' The Fall Of Math as it's supposed to be their best.
This dude is also really into Coheed & Cambria. What kind of shiznitch is that?
I mean, he missed an Arcade Fire gig to see these guys, so they must be some sort of ok.

You need to get some Battles in your life; here (http://www.warprecords.com/?mart=WARP141). If you've not already stumbled across Mogwai (http://www.mogwai.co.uk/) they're ace and all.
Others... Clogs, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, Tortoise, Contriva, A Silver Mt. Zion.

Ah, I've wandered into a Battles gig last year at a festival. Pretty damn cool. (y)
And all those other bands are pretty much my mates favourites and I hear about them a lot...
I've heard some Mogwai a long long time ago, when I was maybe 13, and I didn't 'get it' back then and never gave them another go. Perhaps I should do.
Oh and thanks for the tips btw. :)

Oh aye - Mogwai are well worth a reappraisal... 'Young Team', 'Come On Die Young' and 'Rock Action' are all worth your ££££.

I've been getting into them last year, really creative band. I was stunned when I first listened to "Red", it sounds so modern for a 1974 album. My favourite until now, but I haven'r listened yet to their '80s stuff...
