Dude, don't diss the album before you give it a chance.

It's the Beastie Boys.

If that leaked song is real and the info on Mic to Mic is legit - I hate to say it, but immense disappointment is somewhat of an understatement. I know there are a lot of teenagers in here who think In Sounds From Way Out was an album, and who think everything they touch will turn to gold - I used to think so, too - but fuck! Are they a fucking lounge act now?

I'll try to restrain myself, wait, and listen with an open mind, but I have a bad feeling about this.

new album i'll just have to wait n listen, i just hope its not their last album ya know, it would suck if their last album didn't have their voices on it

I still have doubts about this because if there was anyone who would fake a massive hoax about the album being all instrumental, it's the Beastie Boys. But you never know, it could be true.

I'm pretty bummed out. Beastie Boys are by far my favorite group of all time, so of course I'm going to buy it the first day it comes out...But man, I'm pretty bummed out. No vocals at all? I kind of figured there wouldn't be any rapping on it, but we couldnt at least get a Sabotage/Gratitude type deal?

I just have a feeling this record is going to come out, be hype for about a week and then fall off the face of the earth. I guess though when you're at the level that the Beastie Boys are at you can do something like that and not even give a shit. Which is a testament to them as artists.

Who's not to say that they will put out another album in a year with lyrics on it. Personally, I totally dig the idea of an instrumental album. NO, I'm not one of the fans that totally adores everything they do. I don't much care for the hardcore stuff.

(lb) why can't more of the dissapointees be as understanding and logical as you, my man? i mean, we're all bummed to some degree about the lack of vocals, but it's not the end of the world, nor is it a reason to abandon this project for the wrong reasons, especially before we've even heard it.

They've always been the kind of band to do what they want when they want. I'm sure we'll hear new hip-hop material within the next 3 years, which isn't nearly as bad as 6 years between Hello Nasty and TT5B (but we did get the Anthology, the DVD, and IAWGM during that time).

Brother McDuff
04-27-2007, 12:30 AM
considering such a wonderful catalogue and truly incredible career and loyalty to their fans and reputation, i've always held the belief that the boys would end their run with a distinct swan song. as in, they'll make it clear that it's their last album, and they'll make it a real beastie boys album.

the hip hop will flow like wine

the instrumentals will pass around like fat spliff

the hardcore will melt faces, gently

and all the in between will glue it all together like........like........

nacho cheese?

but no really, i think they're very conscious of how well such a record would round out their career and please their fans.

I don't think they'll ever just decide to make a last album, I see them performing together as a group until one of them dies. Maybe this album is a new direction, their hip-hop days might be over. I doubt it though, the only thing stopping them would be people's perceptions of them as old white guys and they've never been ones to care what people think.

in the conan interview they did a few years ago he asks them what they think about getting older in the music biz and their thoughts on the rolling stones. yauch expressed that, not in these words, that a band sticking around that long is kinda foolish and pitiful. he said they'd know when to bow out honorably, and the other two seemed to agree.

i highly doubt them sticking around til someone dies, furthermore ending their career with an album that doesn't have hip hop on it.

Well see the thing is that the Rolling Stones aren't even the Rolling Stones anymore. It's Mick Jager, Keith Richards, some other guy who's name I can't remember, and a revolving door of musicians. Beastie Boys are three guys. They probably won't be rapping when they're 70, but I could imagine them still working together and making new music.

you're much more optimistic than i. i hope you're right.

unless it gets really embarassing by then. i trust they'll know when they don't have any left in them, and hopefully they won't beat a dead horse.

If they do disband it will probably be to pursue other interests. Yauch seems to be into film making and producing, Adam H seems to be into making beats, and Mike... shit I don't know what else Mike does in his spare time. He's probably a good father.

I think bowing out when you are 'old' is only applicable if the band looks foolish / flogging a dead horse. Yeah the Stones look incredibly old, but I hardly think the Beasties are that far yet. And even if they did continue into old age it wouldn't matter as long as they didn't look stupid. I mean Prince is getting on but he still looks as cool, if not cooler than ever - it doesn't look like he shouldn't be on stage!

mike d said months ago it would cause 'fan anger'......than why put it out.....why not sit on it til a few hiphop trax were made.......or release it as an ep......i respect being true to themselves.....but this album will come out july 10th and will be forgot by the end of that month.....

Bernard Goetz
04-27-2007, 08:56 AM
FYI: The Rolling Stones have three of five members who been in the band since the start, and four of five who have been in the band since 1972. Hardly a "revolving door."

Every band, when they are younger, say something about not doing it when they get too old. Then they keep doing it. There's no way anyone, even Yauch, can tell how the Beastie Boys will feel about performing 'Brass Monkey' when they get to be 64.

It seems fair to assume that an all-instrumental release from the Beastie Boys should be released with little fanfare/promotion (kinda like Aglio was), but since they are making a big stank out of this release, I'm going to have to have faith in their assertion that it's going to be "sick."

Its just surprising to me that a lot of the heads who were all over anyone saying that they were disappointed about TT5B AFTER listening to it are being
SO FREAKIN' NEGATIVE before they heard even a second of the new album.
Look, I understand the hip-hop heads(I'm assuming this designation means people who can only appreciate hip-hop. How sad) being disapointed. Its just that, for me, the beasties have always been a source of all kinds of exceptional music. I love instrumental music and beastie instrumentals are some of the best I've ever come across. I loved TT5B but I felt a little cheated because it was only hip-hop. I might end up feeling that way bout TMU, but I'll wait to hear it first.

I'm still wondering why a bunch of people care if the record stays in the public for more than a week. ??? As if they have a financial stake in this whole thing or something! like they care if the Beastie Boys sell enough so they can provide food for their families. ha! or maybe they want their favorite band to be in the spotlight for months on end..

but the way I look at it is the less they sell..the more for us true fans! meaning less people hogging the lines at concerts and shit! it'll be a sleeper. and then we could look forward to their next proper album in less time (hopefully).. due to the "disappointing sales". a lot of people are in deep denial that this is going to be anything other than a straight up instrumental lp. their aint no hoax. it's gonna be no vocals. and it's gonna be sick~

QueenAdrock

OMFG! An instrumental album? HOLY FUCK, THAT'S TERRIBLE.

Oh wait, I loved In Sound from Way Out! and was a little disappointed that TT5B didn't have any instrumentals. I'm psyched to hear them pick up their instruments again. And it's not like this is their LAST AND FINAL ALBUM, I'm sure they'll have more rap songs in the future, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the music for the brilliance it's bound to be.

Maybe this will clear out all of the bandwagoners and leave behind the true fans, just like Paul's Boutique did.
