I rarely post on this board but I read it everyday! I am tired of people complaining about the new album being instrumental.
The In Sound From Way Out! was instrumental and one of my favorite records to date! The Beastie Boys are diverse, always have been and I have been waiting (like many other fans) for another instrumental record to be released.
If you are not a fan of their instrumental work, that's fine but don't dis their work because you are upset at their choices!
If you want to hear hip-hop listen to their other releases, or take in some of their shows over the summer but please, please stop tearing into this record, without a doubt it will be great!
Peace!

People are definitely going too far in criticizing something that hasn't even leaked yet. I'm waiting to hear it to judge. But, "without a doubt it will be great" sounds like you're going too far in the opposite direction.

People are definitely free to add their opinion and I open to criticism as well, we all are!
It is my opinion that this album SHOULD be great, based on all their past releases!
BUT, no one can say, at this point, that it will or won't be good factually. What I am saying is give it a chance before you throw it under the bus. The Beastie Boys have never been just a a hip-hop group so this record should not come as such as a surprise!
Final note:
I am just glad that the Boys continue to release new material and expand their catalog! I think we, as fans, should be thankful for that regardless of our preferred type of Beastie Boys material!

'The In Sound From Way Out' wasn't one of their "once every five to seven years" releases.
People would be fine if this were released between the 2003-2007 time period, but because it is THE next album, and because we're probably going to have to wait another four years to get an album with lyrics (totaling 8-9 years inbetween albums with lyrics), that makes quite a few people upset.
I have no problem whatsoever with people being upset.

People can be upset if they want but I think it's ridiculous! I am glad that there is a release at all... we have been privileged to have a favorite band that has lasted, with quality and integrity, for this many years!
I want the Boys to release what they want, the kind of music they want to make because that is the only way we will get the best product!

looks guys....there maybe light at the end of this tunnel.
sure, it maybe a "brand new" intrumental album as opposed to thier "previously released instrumental album so why bother buying it if you already own thier previous albums" but look on the bright side.........there may not be a place on the radio dial for it but Im sure it will be coming to an elevator near you!

My points exactly. When I think that this may the only material we get out of them for the next few years, I shudder.

so why did they go and rock the lame idea that will cause 'fan anger'?

Obviously we don't know what this will be like but what I am saying is, give it a fuckin' chance! Sincerely, i do hope we all enjoy it!

I'm sure I'll get some "ITS NOT ABOUT TEH SALES!!!11!!!" backlash by saying this, but I'll just do it. I don't foresee this album going anywhere near platinum....gold at the most. I don't judge an artist on sales by any means, I'm just making a statement...
I think that's one reason for the "spy type" music video we may see....they're going to to need a strong video to carry this album.

I can understand criticizing it after it's released but to do it beforehand is ignorant.
These threads will be documented, so if those that 'shudder' at this album comeback after the release loving it, there will be hell to pay! j/k

its an instrumental record.....whats to love........"oh snap, did you hear that organ.....its awesome"......
as opposed to "i'm on your mind, its hard to forget me/i'll take your pride for a ride if you let me" is an incredible rhyme......

That's where we differ my friend, I am a fan of instrumental jazz (although, we don't know what that will be) but songs like Transitions and Drinkin' Wine are some of my B-Boys faves!

Ok, so if they grew their hair out really long and did 80s hair band glam rock, you would probably be giving some of the "fan backlash," fair to say?
(all things considered, looking back, id probably wish for this idea more)

oh man what the fuck are you talking about, the beasties felt like making this instrumental album, respect it! and i think there are a lot of people who are interested in their instrumental stuff. And just as Jban is saying, the instrumentals fit perfectly in their style, wake up, the beastie are not hip hop only...

If the album is basically a jam session then it probably didn't take too long to put together. It wouldn't surprise me if they were back in the studio by the end of the year.

you pretty much said it. some poeple love organs, some love rhymes, some love guitars, some love singing, some love drums, some love drum machines. but some love it all. this statement kind of offends those of us that really do say things like "oh snap, did you hear that organ, its awesome".

I rarely post, although I do PM certain people on the boards from time to time and look at the board regularly, and it bums me out that people start defining who is and isn't a "fan" by the number of posts, especially around the time that a new album comes out. We're lucky that we have something new to post about and it is good that so many people appreciate the Beastie Boys and want to be a part of the fan community. I don't mean to sound so much like "let's all have a message board group hug," but at least we have something coming out this summer and that we can be excited about.
I'd prefer vocals for what it's worth, but the fact I am going to be able to see the band this summer is a gift.

I don't want the same Beasties album. I'm not still waiting for LTI #2.
I dig the fact that the Beasties aren't afraid to completely blow-up their musical boundries. Anyone who doesn't appreciate this doesn't really get what the Beasties are all about.
People who are old enough to remember the release of PB & CYH should be familiar with this type of fan backlash at them not doing what they're "supposed" to do.
Went through the same shit with PB
Went through the same shit with CYH
Shit turned out OK
People should trust.
