Meg White gets hassled for her drumming. I'm sure part of the reason stems from the fact she's a woman.
Of course she isn't John Bonham, but her drumming is extremely effective in the context of The White Stripes.

No, it stems from the fact that after years of drumming in very popular 'band' she still hasn't gotten any further than *boom* *tish* *boom* *tish*
Which is about my level. And I've drummed about 3 times in my entire life.
You could argue that her style works well with the type of music, and perhaps it does, but that still doesn't make her a very good drummer.
I'd like to hear some white stripes songs with 'proper' drumming sometime, just to hear if it would be any better.

I'm not saying YOU don't like Meg White's drumming because she is a woman, but I do notice a general animosity towards Meg White that I suspect wouldn't be as prominent if The White Stripes had a male drummer instead. Sexism in rock is still there, sadly.
And the fact that she isn't what is called a "good" drummer is what makes her good, IMO. I don't know whether she's trying to come off as unskilled or that's the full extent of her drumming range, but I'm not questioning it because the drumming is awesome in The White Stripes. Doesn't mean it'd suit other bands, but the Stripes are truly a breed of their own.

Her drumming makes what Jack does all the more impressive.

Oh for fuck's sakes!! When in the fuck are people gonna realize that music isn't made for people to freakin bicker and fuss over!!???!!
Simply put. If you like it, then you do. If not, then you don't.
Why in the hell do you want to waste your time to even think things like. "oh crappy drummer" blah blah. You guys are what really makes the music so much un-enjoyable.
It's not like she's saying "hey guys, I'm the best drummer in the world, you all suck ass".
If there's ever been a time when my favorite band has just plain out said, "We
re the best guitarst and drummer, and bassist that has ever lived" Then I'm sure that I'll never buy their music again.

Raconteurs?

Honestly, what I've always liked about the White Stripes is how "impromptu" they sound. All their songs tend to sound like they walked in to the studio, sat down without anything written and just played whatever and that's what gets recorded and released. It all sounds so loose and sometimes without structure as is the case with this new song.
And Meg's drumming lends itself to that style. "proper" drumming would only ruin the spontaneous nature of their music, in my opinion.
I also love the Racontuers but that's the principle difference between the two bands. Broken Boy Soldiers sounds produced, planned and calculated to me. Which isn't bad, I'm just trying to say that all this "The White Stripes need a real drummer" talk is dumb.
They'd then cease being The White Stripes.

they should have ceased after Elephant.

You guys have now re-convinced me, I love it. The whole structure is doomed from the beginning, the only thing that makes any sense is Megs thump, thump, thump.....icky thump, thump, thump.
Bravado, swagger and a complete indifference to any sort of studio environment. Equates into great live music! The White Stripes never meant to be a big band, it just turned out that way.
Thats why any serious rock journalism about the White Stripes just gets filed in the Ramones cabinet. Let us pinheads enjoy our fucked up music.
