As you guys may or may not know, I've been thinking about going back to school again, as working sucks donkey balls.
I have to do all these exams (well, 4) to get into university, and 2 weeks ago I had my first one. I had to write an essay in English. No problemo I thought but it all went a bit wrong.
First of all I couldn't find the university building as everyone was sending me in a different direction. So I got there 5 minutes late and was already totally stressed out. Then I got this form with 5 subjects I could choose from and I had to write a 300 word essay about it. Again no problem I thought...
I was put into a little study room and as soon as I looked at the paper and tried to write, my whole mind went blank. I couldn't even form sentences in my head anymore. And to make it even worse, there were also 2 girls in the room who were very loudly discussing the works of Jane Austen ('omg Mr. Darcy drool drool' etc...) and distracting me even more.
When I had about 10 minutes to go, with a blank paper, I just wrote some bullshit story which really didn't make much sense at all, and was far less than 300 words.

So, for 2 weeks I've been stressing and being almost sure I would fail and finally the letter fell on my doormat and said I actually PASSED.
Doubleyouteeeff?!
This is supposed to be one of the best universities in Holland, and the hardest to get in to, so you can see why I'm so excited about this. whoooo!

Now there's only 3 exams left to go, and knowing that passing isn't as hard as I thought, it should be a proverbial piece of piss.

University, here I come!

Congrats and have a good time at the uni!
The tests for university are often on the news for being ridiculously easy, but wtf, we can't find work for all the untrained workers anyway! ;-)

Thanks, but I'm not there yet! I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Anyway this university (Leiden) is the oldest in Holland and was the only one that wanted to reject people, who did get their diplomas, if their grades wern't high enough. But they're not allowed to do that I think.

I've heard from many people that these exams are easy to do at any uni if you put some effort into it, except for Leiden. Their exams are supposedly way harder, but I only heard this after I applied. :s

I so hope I get in. The place is beautiful. It's like Amsterdam, but smaller and far more relaxed and the uni building is on a little 'island' surrounded by a park and a canal and when I was there everybody was chilling in the sun...

OMG I WANNA GO THERE NOW!!! </excitement>

well ,good for you!!!

I also thought university was hard, i start this semester( January) and i did not know if i could pass, because for me it's been 12 years since i went back to school and i did not choose the easiest field, political science with a minor in philosophy. But, so far, i pass all my class with fairly good score, and i am quite happy about it.

So yea, we all think that university is hard because of the status of this institution ,yet, if you got a brain and are into what you study, you should be quite fine!!

Anyway, good luck!!:)

I take it English isn't your first language then?

That's quite impressive - i always thought it was. The fact that you can type in english so flawlessly is probably what got you through. Quality not quantity and all that.

Nice yin! :D

Yeah I know, but at least it will be a more enjoyable and better paid kind of donkey balls. I don't want to be making/selling sandwiches the rest of my life.

I thought you knew by now Timmeh. I'm as dutch as a stack of pannenkoeken with cheese! :p

But thank you very much. I always tend to think my english is 'ok', but no more than that. That's why I want to study the language, to get it to perfection. It's even worse when I speak it, because I hear so many flaws while others compliment me. It's all in my silly little head. </perfectionist freak>
