come on - deal with it - IT'S AN INSTRUMENTAL (YES, ONLY INSTRUMENTS) ALBUM. I think there is enough signs that point to this (ie. mic-to-mic info, Mike D's "effortless" and "jazz oddysey" quotes, instrumental tours happening, etc.) That's not such a bad thing considering EVERY Beastie Boys album is:
1) Guaranteed Fresh EVERY time
2) Fucking wicked
3) A different style, all of which will slice your head off.
Hip-hop is shit anyways, these days, people need to be subjected to the phatness that is jazz. Especially their bass-laden, rhythm jazz.

I think he is onto something here. I take it we have no official word yet. But the fact that the BBFC has not reported anything, which is very unusual for one of them, makes me think something is up.

There will be lyrics. The only difference being instead of sampling beats they will play their own shit, which is to an extent what they did on Check Your Head and Ill Communication, so that's what we can expect I reckon. Only the album may have an even more raw sound to it, which is alright.

I can't really tell you much about it or rather I don't know what I am "allowed" to tell you or not, but I will tell you what I think I am allowed to say right now. I'll be able to tell you more in a couple of weeks. I know that if it were my favorite band that I would want to know so I will confirm a few things. Why would you listen to me? You probably won't, but I have friend who is a regular on this board. She knows me well and knows my profession and she can tell you with absolute certainty that what I am telling you is legit.
A) The new Beastie Boys record IS an instrumental album. No, there are no lyrics on it. Not even a suggestion of lyrics, not on one song.
B) As of now, the album title is called "The Mix-Up". I see artists change their album titles before street date all of the time, but I think this is set and won't change.
C) The album is schedule for street date on July 10th (yes, that is a Tuesday in the US). Not sure what the UK date is, but generally those are Monday's so it will most likely be July 9th.
Take it or leave it. When I can post more for you I will. Like I said, if it were my favorite band I would want to know too.

Unless you've signed a confidentiality agreement or could lose a job by posting what you know, there is no such thing as what you are "allowed" to say factually. I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just saying you don't run the risk of any kind of legal action by disclosing what you know unless you have some contractual relationship with Capitol or someone else involved with the album. I can understand being a little intimidated about scooping a major label release, but it's an entirely different thing than posting links to
mp3 files, cover art, or something that's actually copyrightable. Facts are not copyrightable.

come on,
since the info is out, that the new beastie album will only be instrumental, everybody cries "oh no, no lyrics".
the beastie's play punk/hardcore since they early years (later than as quasar also).
the beastie's play hiphop/rap since licensed to ill till to the 5 boroughs.
the beastie's play this fuckin' crossover rock thing (fight for your right, sabotage) - that i love so much - since licensed to ill over ill communication.
the beastie's also play instrumentals since check you head to ill communication and a little bit in hello nasty.
i count ... 4 different style's (if you count hiphop individually you can add 3 more style's) and now its the time for instrumentals.
damn, don't be so shy. every beastie album turns your shoe's off and you were jumping over and over.
so, that's the beastie's. every album a new thing. they don't stood still. they are pioneers in music. you listen to 5 albums from the beastie's and listen to 5 different music-style albums.
so, and now get a handkerchief, wipe your water from your eye's and count the days till 10th june.

Actually, I need some help from you guys. I heard from my friend who is a big fan that someone had posted a clip of a song somewhere on the general message board? I originally had come here to check out which clip was posted, but then saw you guys were still in the dark and thought I would help you out. It's probably a good thing for me to have my expectations lowered this early. It's like when I was in school and I'd hope for Cs and then I'd be happy if I got a B-. If I had been hoping for an A, a B- would suck.

Been tryin to place that "rock sound" quote you mentioned with the album. It's hard to place and I am terrible at descriptions. Also, I don't want to mislead you guys in any way. Off the Grid may fit more into the "rock sound" once it gets about 2 minutes in and kicks in. Even still, it's got a very 60's euro indy feel to it. 14 St Break and Suco de Tangerina sound like they might fit a bit into the "rock sound," but even then they sound like a throwback to something you might hear in a Gidget film or an episode of Bewitched or the Pink Panther, but with an added twist. It's not a record that I can say sounds like anything else I have heard before. It's definitely a "fun" record and I would totally throw it on at a beach party... or for me a house party since there is not a beach anywhere nearby.
I hope that helps for those who care.
It's really well done and you guys won't be disappointed.

If you ask me - the cover is straight up Northern Soul/Freakbeat style with references to Yellow Submarine animation. Wouldn't be shocked if it was the same illustator that did Beck's "information" art.
The track titles sound a mixture between spy-lounge-jazz that some predicted, and straight up rock-funk breaks. A lot of their instrumental music comes from grooves off rare jazz, soul, funk classics that you often hear sampled in Hip Hop. A break can come from anywhere, but if you listen to Paul's Boutique, the majority of samples came off many of the records that b-boys (not the beasties, i mean breakers) have been dancing to for 30+ years. The original style of Hip Hop dance was called Rocking, because they were dancing to rock records - which may explain Mike D.'s quote in some way. Not to mention, how important rock drums are to breaks. Just look at the mix of samples on Paul's boutique to see what I mean. I doubt they could pull of anything like Breakestra's "Mixtape" record, but I do think we can expect a lot of latin rock, classic rock (steve miller band type breaks), early disco (Soul Makkosa style), and on. There are jam sessions from GSon studios on some tapes from Rickey Powell's show where they're jamming in that style, and it's not that different then the instrumental stuff they normally release. I also keep thinking about the powdered tux section of AIFST.
Now maybe the record company fellow would like to let us know if that is a hot/cold guess? (Oh I see the above post....okay so much for that theory hahahh I should probably delete this but I'll post it anyway.)

Alright, enough mincing. I'm not being pessimistic. Don't call it pessimism if I'm confident enough to use my head and question what's being fed to me. What would you like me to call your point of view? Ignorant? Surely it's not, but I could easily use the word.
word. i suppose pessimistic was a bad choice of words. i just found my excitement kind of deflated with all of the shoot downs. i suppose you're doing us all a favor, in a sense, wherein you're playing the skeptic in a situation where everyone's easily swooned and taken by even the most unprecedented claims and accounts.
i won't lie though, in saying that i'm pleased with popflier's info. if this turns out to be the real deal, i'm truly feeling it; from the review, to the cover, to the track titles.(y)

Hey Popflier, not that it matters, i'm just interested to know how you think this album will do commercially? is there single potential like Ch-check it Out and Intergalacic? will it be big in the album charts?

Assuming this is true, there is a title of one song "Of The Grid" on this white thing in the middle - is it a hint to a first single?

I've posted a tracklisting and a review of the new Beastie Boys record for you guys on a blog on my work myspace page. I can't post any tracks, so please don't ask. When I have permission to post the album cover on my myspace page I will do so.
www.myspace.com/newnoisedenver
If anyone is in the Denver area I am looking to see if I can throw a listening party before the record streets. I'll post any updates on my page about that or any additional info on the new album, etc.... So check back if you are interested.
Like I said earlier, if it were my favorite band I would want to know too.
Thanks popflier!

I put my sherlock holmes hat on and did some logical thinking type shit
Convincing
- The album art is professional quality - it's cool, especially the logo
- The tracklisting sounds pretty legit
Suspicious
- The album art looks kind of like the New Noise logo in the top left of the myspace page, which also looks professional - maybe the same guy did both...
- The photo of the bboys is one we've seen already
- New Noise looks like quite a small operation - why the hell would they risk the wrath of the beastie boys or capitol records by leaking important information on the beastie boys own message board??
Conclusion
...dunno

EDIT: SUCK THE TANGERINE? Two titles with Rats in them? The fuck outta here
IT'S A FAKE.
There is no "Jazz Oddysey".

You guys are seriously buying this crap? No offense to this person who posted this stuff on myspace but I refuse to believe anything until something comes out of the boys themselves.
Makes no sense that this much info would be out and there's still no official announcement.
Also, that album cover? Come on now. It looks fan made to me. And the song titles sound, at best, like someone trying to be clever.
All that being said, if this is true, I'll gladly eat my hat.

If it is in fact the cover, it's a collage in the spirit of the current website, but more obviously, the last Beck album. Even if it's a fake, I like it. Kudos to the artist that made it, whomever that is. Cey? McMullen? Losel?

It is a lot of trouble to do a fake. the album cover does look a little busy and the picture is 'yes' already seen but.....i dunno, it IS too much information about the album and suspicious that there is nothing official yet.....even from NME or MTV who had the scoop on TT5B, tracklisitng an all if i remember correctly.

Rat Cage=The Rat Cage circa Pollywog Stew
Off the Grid= Grid Mode Squad a la AIFST
The Melee= Again, AIFST reference to the Shazam! remixes
The Cousin of Death=Sleep. Nas' New York State of Mind utilised the expression very well.
14th Street Break=Already shouted out on 'Dedication' (14th Street!)
The Gala Event= What they're calling the new shows, bearing in mind TT5B never had a track called 'The Pageant'
At a surface glance at these song titles, all of these references are obvious. They might be true, but they're very obvious, especially for the Beastie Boys. And that makes them kinda hard to believe. Again, I won't accept anything until I'm hearing it, or reading it somewhere other than myspace.

Fantasic album cover and track listing. If this is a fake it is a brilliant one. I believe it is real or at least it deserves an "A" for forgery ability. Review is nice as well. If true I am very worried that the LP will be leaked on the internet...not that I think you would do this.
I highly doubt the record will be leaked, unless the band decides to post something themselves. The only copies out there are all watermarked to the individual person. They are not just watermarked in the files, but the watermark runs through the audio as well. So if someone played the record in a club and someone else stood with a tape recorder and mic and recorded it and then uploaded the files to the internet the watermark is still there in the audio and we can tell from who's watermark CD the audio came from. So unless someone wants to get fired there's no way the record will leak from any of us.
This is a standard watermark so please don't think we are just doing this for the Beastie Boys record. We do this with all of the albums. It's a way for us to hear it and talk about it before the street date.

No, actually that is a pretty good description.
"spy-lounge-jazz that some predicted, and straight up rock-funk breaks."
This seems pretty dead on for some of the tracks. (Suco de Tangerina especially) It's just, to me, not quite as jazzy, but more of a lounge feel.
The music really feels at times like something that you might hear in a soundtrack to a 60's comedy film (ie..Pink Panther.)
Alright guys, I'm done. I've tried my best to give you a good description and give you guys some info. I am not a reviewer, but tried my best to describe it. Like I said before, the album is really good and is allot of fun. I am certainly not disappointed in the least. I'll add updates to my page as I get them if you want to check back later on.
There is a main New Noise page you can also visit with links in the locals only section to over 50 New Noise myspace pages throughout the country. I am sure that some of the other pages will begin posting info shortly. www.newnoisemusic.com

I don't, I just think it would be awesome if an instrumental retro sounding song somehow became a hit.

Peter Gunn by Henry Mancini. I guess this does not count as retro circa '59. How about the Art of Noise (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEPSR4KsbO8)remake?

Melee= Brouhaha
and nYc is always synomymous with Rats, Lord knows Ive seen my fair share... that requires two songs with Rats in the title...

When I read Cousin of Death I think "Inhale deep, like the words of my breath/I don't sleep, 'cause sleep is the cousin of death/Beyond the walls of intelligence life is defined/I think of crime, when I'm in a New York state of mind"
When I read Rat Cage I think of the label that Pollywog Stew and Cooky Puss were on.

I don't understand this post.
I've had the new CD for a month now and the only voices I hear on the whole thing are inbetween songs (ie: 1, 2, 3, 4...) or just talking like the album was recorded at a big jam session.
