Just wanted to be the first to say I told you so when it happens here shortly after the "runoff" with Segolene Royal.

BTW, I predicted it awhile back...a turn to the "Right" in Europe with Merkel's victory in Germany and Sarkozy's in France.

Maybe the Tories will even be able to pull an upset in England the next go-around.....

:D

So you "predicted" something that has been happening for decades, left and right wing taking turns at the helm.

Whooptiedoo

wow, predicting one candidate will beat another in a two candidate runoff, you've really gone out on limb here.

Germany is governed in a 'grand coalition' govt. change and reform was needed, but Germans obviously preferred to stay in the center while getting rid of Schroeder. they had their chance to 'turn to the right' when Edmund Stoiber was the CDU's candidate a few years ago. he was beaten and went back to right wing Bavaria.

and I'm not sure a Tory victory in the next British elections could be called an upset, Britons dislike Blair so much that they could punish Labour as well.

That guy was fishing hook, line and sinker on the right hand side of the spectrum. (n) His comments about "flushing out the dirt" in the banlieues was pure nazi agitation. Damn Psychozy!

Are you always this dense? Or just unable to read?

I stated that Sarkozy would win back BEFORE the election to narrow it down.

As for Germany, at least Merkel is FAR more pro-U.S. than Schroeder was posing as.

Finally, I never said anything about an upset....merely stated that the electorate in Europe is growing weary of the unkept "promises" of unfettered Socialism, especially in the foreign policy arena.

I love the conservative hard liners in Iran....they make themselves the enemy without pretensing towards human rights or nuclear non-proliferation.

You can effortlessly substitute "Iran" with "US" in that sentence.

Also, one of the reasons that the tories are likely to regain parliament is because Blair has pissed off friend and foe by having his tongue stuck firmly up Bush's arse.

High unemployment rates in Germany have caused people to be upset with Schroeders government and when people are upset with government policy people turn to the opposition, left or right.

funnily enough, I don't read many of your posts. I find the tone of them far too condescending and narrow minded.

so for you having(not even electing) a slightly more pro-US chancellor is ample evidence of a turn to the right? thats rather weak. I hardly think a citing a country that has a grand coalition govt made up of the left and right is worthy example in a discussion of some European turn to the right. As for foreign policy decisions, it was a foreign policy that was contradictory to the US' direction that was one of the main reasons Schroeder was able to win in 2002. in 2004, as synch has said, it was the stagnant economy that did him in, and even then it wasn't enough to cause a substantial turn to the right.

to synch's example's of the Netherlands and Italy, I'll add Spain.

Finally, I never said anything about an upset....
