Yay -- after trying out a few in my area, I finally found a really really good sushi house close to where I live. Right on. The unagi was the most mouth watering, tenderest I've ever had. I know it wasn't harvested locally, but it didn't look like the same pre-packaged stuff that's everywhere -- this was kind of toasty gold color. Interesting.
I ordered one roll just because it sounded funky. It was ground salmon wrapped around whitefish and tiny asparagus stems, deep fried. Oddly tasty, and I hadn't seen that before.
Happy happy. (y)
What's the funkiest roll you've ever gotten? I know in Berkeley one time this chef made one of the guys a chicken roll, but I can't remember what was in it. Then there's the Philly Roll -- salmon and cream cheese. That was ridiculous. (y)

descripe me the taste
I'm allergic to fish so I can't eat sushi but that still doesn't stop me from thinking how cool it looks. Almost too trendy looking to eat

funky as in good, or bad?
because as i wrote in cooking thread i hate smoked mackerel, ugh, but i had the most awesome tuna teriyaki california roll uramaki the other day, too.
BODY SUSHI! (y)
EDIT: er, unfortunately i didn't experience this sushi as part of a body sushi package but heck, i would have if i could have.

Well, the Mikey Roll was hot, temperature-wise, but not spicy. Nice little outer crunch, then the taste of creamy salmon. The whitefish was firmer than I would've thought, and then there was this nice little crunchy snap of asparagus. It had a hint of toast, really.
It was good, but I wouldn't order it solo again. Some rolls, you just want a taste of it and eating the entire roll winds up being too much.

:)
I was thinking "funky" as in "unusual" or "surprising."
Like, I don't know... I wouldn't have thought to put asparagus in a roll.
And the asparagus pieces were really small. So maybe three pea-sized pieces in each piece of the roll. Each piece was big -- maybe as big around as a soda can.

Body sushi sounds like the worst idea I have ever heard, and I think up some pretty bad ideas, let me tell you.

Flesh temperature sushi, on nervous perspiring model...…everyone knows sushi should come floating to you on a boat in a moat…..…it’s as annoying as this trend of poxy chefs serving food in martini glasses….(n)
