...and let me be the first to say, "see ya 'round like a donut!"

It was gettin' kinda crowded around here. Gonna be nice to be able to sprawl out a little bit.

This album is gonna be great.

Maybe BeastieAlbum07 will transcribe all the lyrics for us...just in case they don't include them in the liner notes.

As long as it isn't like when TT5B first dropped. For about 4 months afterwards most of the threads here were like: 'Which one is your favorite Beastie Boy?' or 'I think Adrock is cute. Do you also think Adrock is cute?'

I would honestly prefer those threads right now to all the bitching and moaning that's been going on.

I mean,

This album is going to alienate (FAN ANGER!) some of the fans on this board. I say good riddance.(y)

My sig:

It's a joke. A play on words, if you will.

Alot of people give me a hard time about my level of dedication to the bboys. I've always said, "some people get it, and some don't. I'm glad I get it."

Throughout every phase of their career, the beastie boys have lost fans. I think this phase is going to cause people to fall off a little more than anytime before. I don't really care. I'll always be down.

If you've seen the Beastieography from MTV circa 1998, you may remember a Money Mark snippet where he says something about the Bboys being like the Beatles, in that he will always enjoy anything and everything that they do artistically. I feel the same way.

Ok, this shit is getting ridiculous. I am starting to get pissed about people complaining about people complaining.

Seriously, let people throw their two cents in. If people want to let others know that they're disappointed that lyrical geniuses who only release an album once every four-to-five years are releasing an album without any lyrics, then so be it.

This is how the album is going to turn out: remember the story about how Sabotage was going to be an instrumental track before they rushed lyrics onto it before the release quickly? Well, take away the part about lyrics, and the millions of dollars and massive number of fans that came into the group BECAUSE they put lyrics onto it, and you will have "The Mix Up."

And if that opinion upsets you, then post about it. I'm not going to pull a Pshabi and try to suffocate the criticism.

unfortunately around here, most of these people don't go away, they just complain over and over and over and over again and shoot down all positive opinions of the beasties work that they personally don't approve of.

there's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion, but i hate when people feel they need to repeat it in every thread and argue about it. i think most of the people open to the new direction are quick to accept those that don't, but those that don't like it feel the need to argue their point until it eats up every thread, like a virus.

Yo I am with Pshabi in that I effin LOVE the Bboys and will BUY anything they put out (out of respect for what I think is their musical genius). They are entertaining in what they do and don't give fuck about critics and narrow minded fans. But yo, at the same time if all you like is the rhymes, yeah the album will be a disappointment, oh well. You win some you lose some, but with me and pshabi and the Bboys, it is a win everyday and every album!

amen, brother.

on the original topic of the thread, though: the Mix Up may very well cost the beasties some fans, but it will also gain them some new fans too, as well as garner some new respect for them from other, more casual fans who weren't as aware or versed in their musicianship. i think it's definitelty a win-win situation for sure. whether the album receives critical and fan acclaim or blacklists them from popular music forever, i'm just content knowing that i'm a lifer. if I were the only person listening to the boys for the next ten years, i wouldn't feel ashamed or lonely at all: in fact, i'd feel privileged and righteous that i'd be the only bad ass mutha that knew what the fuck was up. gladly, i know i'm not the only person who feels this way.

Kind of like how you've repeated the same, "there are too many negative people here!" post in every single thread on the front page?

What the fuck? Nobody wants them to do an acapella album either.

The point is, lyrics add to a song. I guess if you don't have anything to say you don't need lyrics.

I love reading the board although lately it has been very tense. So I normally don't post but I don't think this will lose fans. I have been a fan since License to Ill and love everything they do. They are my favorite band of all time and a intrumental album is not gonna change how I feel.

Lo_Lyfe
05-01-2007, 09:20 AM
Sorry dude. Nobody means to make things tense.

I have been a fan for nearly 18 years, and I don't like the sound of the album thus far (based on the reports). I don't have narrow tastes (in fact, my tastes are broader than most here), and I don't want them to make another Check Your Head. I just don't dig on the idea of a cocktail album. Not from them.

But yeah, it's all good if you think it's all good.(y)

This is probably more appropriate in this thread:

I think that it's good that fans know what to expect ahead of time. Many fans would be pissed if they bought it without knowing it's a cocktail album. Perhaps the hardcore rap fans should think of this as a one-off side project. Give it a listen. It's okay if it's not your cup of tea. Rejoice in the fact that they're still together and touring. Go and see the band at big live shows where they will perform your favorite songs.

I'm kinda relying on the new songs pulling me into another show, which is part of my conundrum.

I went through all this crap on message boards last year when it was pretty clear DJ Shadows new album wasn't going to be "Endtroducing 2" and so I've held back from posting here. But I have one thing to say, which is basically word for word what I said about shadows album.

I'd rather have them do something they want than force them to do something they didn't. If they feel they've done all they can with rap for now then let them do something else.

I think "I get it" too -- but to be honest this only happens after I smoke a fatty (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=smoke+a+fatty) in my hot tub.

I never said anything about any degree of "getting it." You either do or you don't, there's nothing in between.

I was referring to friends of mine who don't understand why I love this band as much as I do. Or the people who still think of the bboys as an LTI joke from 20 years ago. They don't get it.

I dont think its gonna lose them many fans in a major way. I dont think this CD is particularly a risk or a curiosity either...the more I think about it, as a follow up to a completely instrument free, all hip-hop album it kind of makes sense.

Just as long as the mic's don't stay down for good....
