DB.Guy: Dude, I didn't offer to do this and expect you to pay me for it.

S7: Do you know how much it would have cost me to hire someone to do the work you've done?

DB.Guy: Yes, but you never would have hired anyone, so that's beside the point.

S7: Yeah, that's true.

--------------------------------------------------

Hello remix community, glad to meet you. I wanted to sign up for the boards to tell you all something. Silence7 is crazy. I mean that, the dude's whacked out. My number one reason for helping with beastiemixes.com was because he would let me do whatever I could in whatever way I could do it. Yes he would have suggestions and requests for me, but no he wouldn't get upset if I had to do something slightly different than what he asked for because I may not know how to yet. Either way, I try to give him the best results I can. Once the ball got rolling, he started to see just how beneficial a database back-end can be. You don't even know how much work he has done over the last year doing everything manually with standard HTML. It's a pain in the ass to edit code every day. I'm sure some people understand what I'm talking about.

I remember the first day Silence told me about the site idea. We were talking about websites that we wished people would make, and he mentioned that he'd like to see a Beastie Boys Remix archive. He said that he already had thousands of remixes, but that if he ever tries to find certain ones online after a certain amount of time, they're nowhere to be found. He said, “I wish there was a site that just hosted people's remixes for free and forever.” I thought about it for a second, analyzing what he was asking for, and said, “So why don't you make one?” I told him that even if he did the entire site manually, there's no reason why he couldn't create exactly what he was asking for. We even talked about the database stuff on day one and how eventually things could be somewhat automated and dynamic (we seriously didn't expect a year and 800+ remixes to go by first). About two weeks later, he told me what he had purchased and beastiemixes.com was born.

So what am I getting at?

As my intro may or may not show, Silence is a very giving fellow. Most of you guys have probably noticed that already with the way he puts together remix contests and what not. He has put so much money into his site and has never asked for anything in return. We tend to chat online just about every day after work, and 9 times out of 10 he's busy working on the site; adding mixes, adding remixers, posting news, etc.

I told him I didn't want any money for working on the site. I told him it was my pleasure because it keeps me active with this sort of stuff. I swear it's like talking to a wall. “No man should have to work for free,” he likes to say. Apparently the pizza and soda he buys during our all-day web design sessions just doesn't cut it in his book.

The value of beastiemixes.com just went up a few bills. Thanks bro, I'm lookin' forward to doing whatever I can to get your site wherever you envision it going.

No kidding. A dynamic that Silence is responsible for that I don't know if he realizes is that I, for example, stumbled upon this site a few months ago and have been a fan of the beastie boys for some 20 years. I've done some recording (mostly guitar, bass, vocals, with some midi) for years and having never remixed anything before, downloaded my first a cappella and had at it. After a week or so of listening to other remixes on this site, I realized about 90% of these were hosted on beastiemixes.com. That got me psyched. All these folks from around the world had all these remixes in one place. Long story short, I'm hooked. Because of that site. Musically, it's all I feel like doing right now. He's El Hombre.

Great Post,

By the way, I WILL pay, not for the tracks posted for free download, but for the time invested in running a site for FN free that I have enjoyed daily since I found it. S7 YOU ARE THE SHIT (shit in a good way ;)).

Golly gee, guys...... :o The site belongs to you guys, the remixers the contributors, (You know who you are) and the anonymous downloaders. If any one of you were to ever go missing, the site would die.

I'm just the caretaker.... No payment needed, or expected....

DB Guy, When everyone sees what you've helped me do with the 2.0 site, they're gonna know that the 360 money was well spent. Thanks Again punkass!!
