Does anyone else have it? I'm pretty much set in life. Happy with my family, wife and job but, I've always suffered from depression.

Even before my wife, daughter. I'm not sure why but all I know is that it runs in the family.

Yeah, I'll crack jokes here, write music and play guitar but there's still alot of times where I can't keep busy to keep my mind off of things. For example- work. The whole time that I'm working is basically free time and alot of thought time.

Oh and don't worry guys, I aint thinkin of killing myself for one thing, not even I am strong enough to kill me.

I'm just wondering is there anyone else here that has depression? If so, do you take meds for it? Does it make you feel better?

I think most people have depression. Those who don't are just distracted from/in denial of the bad things in life.

But yeah, I'm officially quite a depressive character. (y)

i've been diagnosed with a few things - major depressive disorder, cyclothymia, and bi-polar is the big one.
it's not really about me just being down in the dumps and feeling sorry for myself, it's just some parts of my brain don't work.
sometimes i completely lose it, i have on a few occasions. i can see it happening, but i can't do anything about it. it's like i'm watching myself from far away.

oh, and yes, i am medicated. in the wake of recent events in my life, i'm going to do the smart thing and either check myself into a mental health clinic/psychiatric unit, or seek further medication.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression when I was 7. I was predisposed to have it since it runs in the family, but it usually needs something traumatic to kick it off - that would be me finding my 3 month old kitten, drowned and frozen in my pool when I was in second grade. I didn't talk for a good month and a half after that, and from then on out I've been dragged around to psychiatrists to get help.

My depression isn't as bad as it used to be, I think it's just changed forms. I still get some bad episodes during winter (thank you Seasonal Affective Disorder) but I can deal with it for the most part (sometimes it gets bad enough that I need to be temporarily put on meds until summertime approaches). However, I do now suffer from panic attacks, which is commonly associated with depression. So, it hasn't left, just kinda...changed. I'm happier and can get up in the morning and do things and function, I just get anxiety attacks certain times and it sucks ass.

I believe that in this life,in this age, that if you don't suffer from depression occasionally, eventually or permanently you must be blessed with ignorance or commited to apathy......to all those who know it,I feel for you,big time....whatever get's you through the night and like the Lama say's "all life is suffering, deal with it"........:)

If you have depression, it's not occasional. A lot of people mistake being sad or down in the dumps for clinical depression, which just ain't the case. Depression is a life-long thing that needs to be controlled with therapy or medication, since it's a chemical imbalance in the brain.

i seemed to be pretty depressed for about the fist hour or two every morning. sometimes i wake up and im in a just fuck it mood because of how shitty i feel and then the depressions lasts all day. so i've learned to just put my head down and trudge through the morning and those first couple of hours. but somedays, especially during the winter, when it's overcast and gloomy i just can't do it. weather has a huge effect on my emotional state. today, for example, it's all cloudy and drizzling and im already late for class and i've been ready to go for about that last 45 minutes. i just don't have the motivation today. but like usually after some time has passed and i feel normal i'll look at myself and wonder what fuck was so difficult. im in a completely different state of mind in the morning.

Well okay, in that case Depression is due to an off balance of thetan levels in the brain. :p

This reminded me of one of my favorite Velvet Underground songs.
Who Loves the Sun
Who loves the sun
Who cares that it makes plants grow
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart
Who loves the wind
Who cares that it makes breezes
Who cares what it does
Since you broke my heart

I like dark comedies, David Lynch films, Lou Reed and Autumn. I am not depressed but I enjoy wallowing in my own misery.

ive suffered from depression for over 12 years. got first diagnosed when i was 13 or 14. been on and off antidpressants many times. i dont like em. it runs in the family. my old lady still has them, my sister has too. must be the brain chemistry, the doc says.

i hate depression. its always there, niggling away. u can get on top of it for some of the time but it will always come back. was suicidal for a good many years, but not anymore.

im doing ok i guess.

The weather here plays really bad havoc with my brain/emotions and it gets worse every winter. I've never been suicidal or in need of professional help - at least I don't think so - but I'll go through long spells where it's a struggle to do anything but stay in bed. I firmly believe that I'd be a much better person if I lived somewhere more tolerable, but I absolutely hate this place and that's pretty much all I can think about a lot of the time.

You people should be meteorologists. If your brain is affected by the weather I would love to watch you on the 6 o'clock news. It would be compelling TV. Turd would be bouncing off the wall when the forecast was for sunny skys and then like Droopy the cartoon dog on a rainy day. The station would be #1 and Al Roker would be yesterday's news.

The weather does not affect my mood swings but on a rainy day the big toe on my left foot swells to the size of a grapefruit.

...and Lo_Lyfe, I used to smoke weed but quit. When I move back to Va I will be around my old friends(dealers) so I will probably imbide in some devil weed.

well it has stopped raining and the clouds have just cleared and my mood has instantly changed. i also just took a massive shit. that could also be the cause of the mood change. lack of sun really has a strong effect on me. i hate winter with a passion. when the days start getting shorter and especially when i first notice the leaves changing has a very profound affect on me. im the only person i know that likes 95 degree 90 percent humidity weather. the reason why i like it so much is that it's the complete opposite of winter.

My friends are so depressed
I feel the question
Of your loneliness
Confide...cause Ill be on your side
You know I will, you know I will

X girlfriend called me up
Alone and desperate
On the prison phone
They want... to give her 7 years
For being sad

I love all of you
Hurt by the cold
So hard and lonely too
When you dont know yourself

My friends are so distressed
And standing on
The brink of emptiness
No words... I know of to express
This emptiness

Imagine me taught by tragedy
Release is peace
I heard a little girl
And what she said
Was something beautiful
To give... your love
No matter what

You know what song makes me feel good although it is the most depressing song of alltime? It is one of my alltime favorite songs by one of my alltime favorite artists.....I fumbled in my closet through my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt..........is classic.

CASH
Sunday Morning Coming Down

Well, I woke up Sunday morning
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
Then I washed my face and combed my hair
And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.

I'd smoked my mind the night before
With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid
Playing with a can that he was kicking.
Then I walked across the street
And caught the Sunday smell of someone frying chicken.
And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost
Somewhere, somehow along the way.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

In the park I saw a daddy
With a laughing little girl that he was swinging.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school
And listened to the songs they were singing.
Then I headed down the street,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringing,
And it echoed through the canyon
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.

On a Sunday morning sidewalk,
I'm wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothing short a' dying
That's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk
And Sunday morning coming down.

When I look out into your eyes out there,
When I look out into your faces,

I see a little bit of Elvis
In each and every one of you out there.

Lemme tell ya...
Weeeeeeeeeellllllll...

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Elvis is everywhere, man!
He's in everything.
He's in everybody...

Elvis is in your jeans.
He's in your cheesburgers
Elvis is in Nutty Buddies!
Elvis is in your mom!

He's in everybody.
He's in the young, the old,
the fat, the skinny,
the white, the black
the brown and the blue
people got Elvis in 'em too

Elvis is in everybody out there.
Everybody's got Elvis in them!
Everybody except one person that is...
Yeah, one person!
The evil opposite of Elvis.
The Anti-Elvis

Anti-Elvis got no Elvis in 'em,
lemme tell ya.

Michael J. Fox has no Elvis in him.

And Elvis is in Joan Rivers
but he's trying to get out, man!
He's trying to get out!
Listen up Joanie Baby!

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Man, there's a lot of unexplained phenomenon
out there in the world.
Lot of things people say
What the heck's going on?

Let me tell ya!

Who built the pyramids?
ELVIS!
Who built Stonehenge?
ELVIS!

Yeah, man you see guys
walking down the street
pushing shopping carts
and you think they're talking to allah,
they're talking to themself.
Man, no they're talking to ELVIS!
ELVIS! ELVIS!

You know whats going on in that Bermuda Triangle?
Down in the Bermuda Traingle
Elvis needs boats.
Elvis needs boats.
Elvis Elvis Elvis
Elvis Elvis Elvis
Elvis needs boats.

Aahh! The Sailing Elvis!
Captain Elvis!
Commodore Elvis it is.

Yeah man, you know people from outer space,
people from outer space they come up to me.
They don't look like like Doctor Spock.
They don't look like Klingons,
all that Star Trek jive.

They look like Elvis.
ELVIS!
Everybody in outer space looks like Elvis.
Cause Elvis is a perfect being.
We are all moving in perfect peace and harmony towards Elvisness

Soon all will become Elvis.
Everything everywhere will be Elvis.
Why do you think they call it evolution anyway?
It's really Elvislution!
Elvislution!

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

That's right ladies and gentlemen,
The time has come!
Time has come to talk
To that little bit of Elvis inside of you.

Talk to it!
Call it up!
Say "Elvis, heal me!"
"Save me, Elvis!"
"Make me be born again
in the perfect Elvis light"

That's right!
You've got that Elvis inside of ya
and he's talkin to ya
He says he wants you to sing!
Everybody's got to sing like the king!

Like the king
Get that leg going now
Get your lip too.
Not no fool Billy Idol lip either
Everybody!
Yeah, we're rockin now!

Elvis is with us.
He's with us and he's speaking to us.
He says "Peoples!"
"Peoples!"
"Everybody!"
"Everybody got to sing!"

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Man o man
What I want you to see
Is that the big E's
Inside of you and me

Elvis is everywhere
Elvis is everything
Elvis is everybody
Elvis is still the king

Lots of people may get depressed these days, but you know you've got it for real when it can't be shifted by a change in circumstance.

I was diagnosed with depression as a child, but now I know that was just plain miserableness at my messy life, a situation rather than an illness. Things changed, I cheered up, never had it since. Things have been hard, I've lost people and been sad and stressed, but not ill, just experiencing normal feelings that we all usually feel at some point.

It bugs me when people who just need to change their jobs/spouses/homes/diet get medication as it's just plain laziness on everyone's part, and won't attack the root of the problem.
On the other hand, there's those multi-millionaires/appearence of a perfect life people who still can't get out of bed in the morning.
There's a patient I heard of whose wife won 2 million on the lottery, he gave up work, did everything he wanted, still has to take the meds.

Even grief (in all it's gut-wrenching and debilitating forms) is not technically depression. Only about 33% of bereaved people will need to actually be treated for a depressive illness.

It's all a bit weird really.
