Wait for it, its a poll.

Well, do you put your groceries in a sack or a bag?

Or something else entirely?

I was going to start a thread directed at cmute, my fellow Texan. But I decided a poll would be more fun.

I have noticed a decline in the use of the word sack, and it saddens me.

where i live they dont even ask anymore "would you like paper or plastic?"
if they did i would answer "sack"

i like the health food store. they dont follow you around, like your trying to steal something, when you bring your own bag/sack. :)

When out and about, I use turtle bags (http://www.turtlebags.co.uk/) as turtles swim up to plastic bags thinking they are jelly fish and DIE from getting trapped in them. They fold down into nothing in my handbag.

For a big grocery shop I use big canvas things that line the trolley, and go straight into the boot of the car.

This is a very important thread, although the actual point of whether something is called a sack or a bag has no relevance in Scotland. It's always been bag.

i have far too many plastic bags around here

the people who bag groceries at the store suck horribly. the double everything, and then put like 10 cans in one, and a loaf of bread in another. even distribution people!

the only thing that might deserve its own bag is eggs, and i dont but them so i dont care

I live in the village wherever I go I walk to....so,it's a backpack and then what doesn't fit ends up in plastic bag's,which become my garbage bags....glad to see "Modbury" has followed San Fran's lead on banning bags....sure there are only 1500 folks but it's a sound idea never the less.....:D

i'm ok with it when one bag it 100 lbs and the others are not. what i hate is when they put cleaners in the same bag with your food. vegetables and poison do not go together.

Yup. I've only had to actually buy garbage bags if I'm doing a major housecleaning job. (y)

would you rather have your cans rolling around with your bread smashing it to a hard lump?

i hate when people bag their own groceries while you're ringing them up. usually they don't know how to do it best and end up completely fucking up and needing more bags anyway. but the other day at a store i did my own, because duh, i know how from my job, and the woman bagging there kept staring at me and saying "i got it." i said no, it's ok, i'll help. she said, no, I'LL DO IT in a very rude tone. and i looked at her and said it's okay, i'm a cashier too. she said oh and backed off. so rude! even though ordinary non-cashier people fuck up when bagging their own, i would NEVER be that rude to someone.

There are some people who are good at it - know to put heavy stuff with other heavy stuff, put colds with other colds, etc. etc. But then I've come across some really shitty baggers in my day. I remember one time I bought all non-perishables, stuff that could fit into two bags, and she put an even amount of stuff into two bags, and put the tampons into a separate bag though it could fit with ease into one of the first two. I think some people get afraid of 'cramping' the other stuff and having the customer yell at them, so they err on the side of giving their stuff lots of room, and therefore lots of bags. Even when it's not necessary at all.

exactly! its just wrong.

you know what else i hate?
when the cashier comments on the stuff you buy. "oh so your going to do laundry tonight?" or "are these good? i've never tried them"

"its none of your business" one day i will scream this.

i think i get mostly frustrated with the extra bags because i spent so many years carting groceries around by myself on the bus. and for that, i'd rather have 1 or 2 really heavy bags than a whole bunch of lighter ones.

or like when they put milk in its own bag and still double it. if you're going to leave the milk by itself, then why even bother putting it in a bag when you can just as easily carry it by the handle

Thats what started me thinking about this. The milk conundrum. They always ask if I'd like the milk in a bag. Never! It has a freakin' handle, people.

I feel a little guilty for hacking the checkout folks....To all the grocery tellers around the world, that magically produce coupons for the products I purchase, I wanna offer my love and respect until the end…..(y)
