some interesting details indeed... that interview still says June 26 release...

the newsletter made no confirmation of an official release date...

the other interesting detail was this...

In fact, they are currently planning another version of the album that will feature collaborations with "a pretty wide array" of "mostly newer" vocalists.

they certainly know how to keep the fans in suspense and on top of their game...

For those of you who do not know (or recall) The Slits (mentioned in the interview) you got to check this out:

Video of The Slits (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGAbV2NborY&mode=related&search=)

Also this one is a great live performance (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKR8NMGEt24&mode=related&search=)from The Slits circa 1977

The Slits came out with one of my all-time favourite LP's called Cut (see review of remastered version (http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/22333-cut)):

Bahahahahahahhhhaaaa!!!!!

Seriously I could totally see listening to this album the way it is with no vocals, it's quite good like that. I could also easily see hearing vocals laid over these tracks. The idea of collaborations and another version of this sounds extremely enticing!

Hmmm....i'm not too keen on the idea of collaborators for some reason. I guess I prefer my lyrics to be of the Beastie nature.

Go ahead...call me Mr. Negative.

The quote released today (see below) from Mike D tells us a lot about what the new album will sound like. I feel the Mix-Up (instrumental / vocal version) will be a timeless classic. Can't wait to hear it / them.

[The Mix-Up] has "different influences, like Public Image Ltd., Gang of Four, the Slits, Killing Joke."

I was excited about this album...but after the "different influences, like Public Image Ltd., Gang of Four, the Slits, Killing Joke." comment...I'm really excited about it.

very well done! I'm stoked. perhaps this will lessen some of the "fan anger" on this board, knowing that this project is multifaceted. Its gonna be ... sick!

I was a little wary but now that I've heard it sounds post-punk and like a Pink Panther soundtrack, well I'm getting pretty excited.

I was thinking more of like the Peeping Tom release where Mike Patton does a lot of vocals and has guests on each cut. I'd be down. Geesh Laver, you're such a hater. Quit being such an asshole! ;) Tee hee! Oh and I LOVED my phone message btw. I hadn't checked my voicemail the entire weekend and yours by far had my crying with laughter.... blah blah blah blah blah... blah blah blah blah blah blah... lolz

Picture This is an awesome song and somehow has a Beastie Boys feel even though it's someone else singing.

All the comments about it sounding like music from a cocktail party had me stressing. However, the fact they've said it sounds like PiL has me very excited... That couldn't be further from the lounge horror I had in mind. Ace.

we were learning about Punk music and what not in my History of Rock class today and I actually got a chance to hear the Slits. Not bad stuff, i'll have to look into it more..... I'm not familiar with the "post-punk" stuff, but it leaves me curious as to what the new music will sound like if its influenced by that and has no vocals....?

I had forgotten about that one. I just threw the vinyl on...and meh, it's ok. It's cool for a bit but Biz's voice just get aggravating. I think that's why I've liked Beasties, Run DMC, Fat Boys, etc.....because the different voices switch up the flavor.

Yeah, those are deep. Sounds cool.

We're almost as much music fans as we are a band that makes music.

Always thought this, as have a lot of others. It's nice to see them acknowledge it.
