true,true....absolutley correct.....but...

The song "Wheat Kings", from Fully Completely, is mainly about David Milgaard. Milgaard, who was from Saskatchewan, was wrongly convicted of murder and served over 20 years in prison before being released. Wheat kings are the nicknames for those giant wheat silos you see on the prairies on farms and such. Gord got inspiration for the song title from the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Western Hockey League team in Brandon, Manitoba. In terms of "Wheat kings and pretty things", the Pretty Things were a band that the Hip used to listen to a lot when they were first starting out in 1983, and they covered a few Pretty Things songs in their sets way back in the beginning, so this line is probably a tribute to that band. The entire lyric "wheat kings and pretty things/lets just see what the morning brings" was probably written as if Milgaard himself was saying this as he's looking out his jail cell window, out at the prairies, hence the "wheat kings and pretty things" and his undying hope that he'll be exonerated, and his optimism towards this end: "Let's just see what the morning brings."

Gordon Downie for Prime Minister in 2008!

The cowtown of Amarillo Texas. If you watch the old westerns where John Wayne is riding on the High Plains you will get an idea of my region's landscape. Tumbleweeds, wind storms, dirt devils, roadrunners and spurs jinglin and janglin.

I was driving home from the airport the other day. The local airport is in the middle of the plains just outside of town. Nothing as far as the eye can see. All of a sudden WHAM! A tumbleweed about 6 feet high blew into the passenger side of my Highlander. It was huge. I did not see it coming and it surprised me. You can see tumbleweeds all over fences along the road.

When I first moved to Amarillo I was outside in my yard chilling. I saw this weird bird hopping around and then I realized---it was a roadrunner!

mikizee
05-04-2007, 08:45 AM
roadrunners actually exist?

Yeti
05-04-2007, 08:50 AM
Oh, yeah. They are all over my region. They are about 2 feet tall and when you approach them they hop then start running. They have plummage on top of their head that almost looks like a little mohawk. Here is what they really look like.
