View Full Version : law school has ruined rap music for me
ever since i've taken criminal law, i keep trying to analyze the lyrics.
the second verse of 99 problems (the one that's all "you was doin fifty five in a fifty fo) has been especially troubling. i tell you, that verse could be on an exam, it's very interesting
crime movies, too. memento was especially tough, i kept trying to think about state of mind. that movie was enough of a mindfuck before law school, thinking like a lawyer didn't help

The worst are the movies where lawyers do unethical things, but they're not portrayed as unethical. Like in The Verdict, Paul Newman gets a pretty good settlement offer from the other side and he never tells his client, but he's portrayed as a hero. My parents loved that movie and I think he should have been disbarred.
i keep trying to put off ruining goodfellas. the scene towards the end where the narcs get him, and he's in the station and they're all like "you gonna bake a cake? we gonna bake a cake?" i just know that i'm gonna be compelled to see if he's been entitled to his miranda rights at that point, and the more i think about miranda, the less i'm gonna enjoy the movie, and i love that movie.
but i've really been wanting to watch goodfellas lately

I can watch goodfellas. It doesn't bother me if the police make bad decisions in movies. And sometimes it's fun. When you see the original Dirty Harry and they bring in the state supreme court justice to personally explain the new US SCT case law to Harry, it's priceless!

yeh on the castle when they name check such seminal cases as mabo v queensland no.2, it brings a tear to my eye cos i studied it for like 5 weeks...
but i would hate for law to run my life
i download a fair amount of stuff illegally
even though my job is specifically related to intellectual property
actually that makes me a big hypocrite

Law students have a more difficult time turning it off than lawyers do. One of my friends from school was the most irritating example of what Gareth described. I had to start avoiding her in the middle of the third year because she was driving me crazy.
The movie where Cher's a criminal attorney and Dennis Quaid is on her jury but he's trying to help her with the case may be the dumbest law movie ever.

they want to express the fact that they'll probably be lawyers someday because basically that's what everybody there wants for some reason
next week im going to norway to work in the reception of a hotel located in a beautiful fjord, now why the hell did i spend five years at law school when this is what i chose to do?
law is just a bunch of made up rules, it has no relevance in itself like nature or arts or other cool things
