Rugrats, Doug, The Adventures of Pete and Pete, Clarissa Explains It All, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Rocko's Modern Life, Roundhouse, Ren & Stimpy, All That, Kenan & Kel. Those were some damn good shows.
My younger cousins watch Nick now, and I turn into an old man everytime I watch it with them. "This is the crap kids these days like? Back in my day we had the GOOD stuff! This new stuff is garbage!"
I wish they would release some of those shows on DVD now. I know they've released Pete & Pete and Clarissa Explains It All, but I want Rocko on DVD yesterday!
How much Nickelodeon did you watch when you were young? And am I the only person in the world that liked Doug?

I thought Doug was Disney
It was on Nickeldeon from 1991-1994, then went to Disney from 1996-1999.
M.C. Guevera = World's biggest Doug fan since 1994!
Damn, you just brought back many old memories. I watched all of those shows back in the day. haha We must be around the same age. It feels weird thinking about back then.
edit: Doug was a beast.

My whole drawing style was influenced by Doug. To this day, when I draw my little comics and shit, I'll include Doug or Skeeter or Patti in them.
How about that show Real Monsters? I think thats what it was called. Also GUTS and Hey Arnold.....
The Adventures of Pete and Pete
Its surprising how little this show is known by my friends. I orgasmed when that shit came out on dvd.
I have home made dvds off kenan and kel and rockos modern life. I even made a nice dvd cover (http://www.aqqi54.dsl.pipex.com/samples/rock_s1-sample.jpg) for season 1 of RML, back in my dvd cover making days.
haha yeah I forgot the AAHH!

God Nick was the shit back in the day. They have the old shows on DVD but it isnt a ligit market product I think it's pretty much like bootlegs or some shit. I know you can buy the Are you afraid of the dark for arouynd $120. It was so good though! Are you afraid of the dark was my shit. I lived for that show, and rocko's modern life. Oh man your bringin' it back here. All that used to be good as hell too - every day french and the complaint department. I miss it. :( They should just rerun all that shit over and over and take off all the crap they have on there now.

you know, if you think about it, Nickelodeon is a pretty cool name for a channel. they used to have some good, avante garde kinda shit on there. I guess I'm just being a snob because I remember being quite skeptical of "nicktoons". they always had old cartoons like Danger Mouse or live actions shows before that. I remember the commercials for the new cartoons being like, "OMG CARTOONS MADE ESPECIALLY FOR NICKELODEON", and my friends and I being like, "hrrrm".
I mean, Iggy Pop was on Pete and Pete! that is so cool! and we didn't even know it!
I liked all the game shows too. Finders Keepers, Double Dare, Gutz, etc. although on finders keepers, I started feeling uncomfortable and agitated because of all the messes being made. I mean, people had to set that shit up and those kids just run on through, tearing things to pieces. I would stress myself out so much just thinking about the people who'd have to clean that up. ha! that's so funny. man, I'm stoned.

Oh snap!
Remember Snick? Saturday night nickelodeon? I used to watch that every weekend. All I remember was Are You Afraid of the Dark was like, the last show on. I forget what else was in the lineup.

While I like Ren & Stimpy and Rocko, the 80s had the real violent cartoons, MASK, Bravestar, GI Joe, Galaxy Rangers, Sabre Rider, Thundercats etc. It seems the network execs have changed from making kids into violent sadists to super-charged ADS spastics nowadays. And all that CGI looks so bad, too.

are kids even supposed to see ren and stimpy? or was there a kids friendly version of it?

wait, nickelodeon didn't come out in the 70's. there wasn't even cable! I thought nickelodeon was an offshoot of mtv, which didn't come out until the early 80's.
DAMN IT. I will have to do some investigating.

Kid-friendly version. Only recently have I seen the non-kid friendly version and I was shocked. Ren woke up because he felt Stimpy poking him from behind, and then he yelled "HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN?" and pointed to a sign that said "Remember Stimpy, I'm the pitcher, YOU'RE the catcher."

Are you sure it was old school Ren and Stimpy, or the Adult Cartoon Party?
