Keep on makin em, bro....Who cares if nobody replies. I make the mixes for myself, what I like to listen to....Then post them on here to share...If nobody else likes it...Then fuck em...They like what they like...You like what you like....We all know your one of the sickest DJ's on the boards..But it does feel good to get some feedback on your shit after you worked so hard on it...

I've come to the realization that there a few kinds of people on the boards.
1. People who download everything and comment on nothing.
2. People who download everything and comment on what they like.
3. People who download everything and comment on everything.
Right now I'm somewhere between 2 and 3, sometimes if something isn't all that great, I don't have the heart or the time to say why the mix is bad... Other people usually will catch a bad mix and give some pointers.
We can hope and prey that everyone turns into a 3. Downloading everything and commenting on everything, but I'm afraid the best we'll ever be able to hope for is 2's.
Couple reasons why you should continue.
Every mix you make furthers your education of the software and techniques used to make mixes/beats etc.
The people who you know and respect almost always leave comments, and if they don't they should.
Mixes have lead to jobs doing much more than remixing.
I like your mixes! :)

I made a CD of my favorite DJ Zap mixes and my kids and I listen to it every time we are in the car. I guess going by the S7 scale I am one of those shitty downloaders, but I never really realized how important the feedback is. I guess from this point on I can commit to being a 2.5.

As of 10:55pm PST.this thread has 38 views, and only 4 replies. That means 34 people didn't give a shit... Nice...

I do know what zap means.
When you bust out with your latest mind blowing, spent ages perfecting it, super fresh mix only to be greeted with supreme indifference is somewhat deflating.
I think people comment alot on things that are extremely different and just drop a note on things they do like when popping in posting up their own thread.
You've had alot of good response to alot of your work on here so remember those ones.

I agree totally with Zap. I don't know how many I've posted over the last 3 or 4 years. I'm winding it down until the new stuff becomes available ( hopefully with the same level of interest we have seen to date on here)
I don't leave feedback as I rarely listen to other mixes. This isn't because I consider myself better than anyone else, quite the opposite. Listening to other peoples mixes gives me an inferiority complex. Plus, if I hear something I really like, I find myself doing something similar - which is not what I want to be doing at all.
I sometimes listen to those mixes with good feedback. I sometimes listen to those with bad. But I am shit at giving crits.

I have a problem that none that have replied so far have. I'm not musical, I know what I like, but don't really like to give " (y) cool! " comments, although that's better than nothing.
I really wish I could give better reviews, but I don't really understand how music is made, the names for different beats, etc etc etc.... So my reviews tend to be more along the lines of how the mixes make me feel, things they make me think of, etc....
For every person who actually tells you "You're mixes ROCK!!" there are probably 100 people who thought it. I know it doesn't help NOT to hear it, but it's true.
About once a month, I burn off 10-15 cd's worth of mixes from the site, I take them to work and hand them out to the people I know who are into mixes/hip-hop. I know that maybe 1/4 of them have internet connections or access to a computer. I write the website address on all of the CD's, but have only had one person tell me they've been to the site. But I took your Beasties -vs- RUN DMC mixtape to 15 people and they all loved it. I'll have to look around for Linkin Park fans next. ;)
Keep your chin up Zap, you have fans you don't even know about!

Make the music for yourself.
The problem is there are so many people who want feedback and only a select few who actually give it. Whenever I happen to remember there is a Beastie Boys forum and come in I have a look at a few recent threads and listen to some tracks (I never really download them - I only ever remember downloading one song which was a remix of J5 over the Eggman beat) and if I'm impressed I'll give a short comment . I agree with Silence7 it's hard to say much more than "it's cool". I make remixes myself and I still don't know enough technical terms  .
If everyone who posts their mixes went and left a review on 5 other tracks beforehand this place would be packed with feeback... but y'know... life sucks :p

F! That! Keep postin'!
I look at it like this...if I'm playing some place and there's only one guy that came for the show, it's just an empty club...I'm gonna' play my ass off for him and make him remember it!
I try to get on here as much as I can but I'm Super-Busy!!! I leave comments when I can but I usually get dragged away from the computer.
Keep em' comin'!

I feel you.
But making music/remixes is all about yourself!
But it's nice if people let you know if something is dope.
Don't bring yourself down. And keep on remixing!

First Point:
Just like you, I appreciate it when someone is like: Whoa thats a cool mix. But really i just make shit I like. And when nobody else replies it sucks but at least i learned something in making the mix, either how to use effects or something about chords and stuff. Also, I try to comment on the good stuff posted here on the boards. There's always some mix that 'slips through ' so to speak, and that sucks for the remixer in question. Its just that i have limited time to do 'maintenance' for my own websites and do remixes and commenting/posting on the boards. You are one of the best DJs this board has ever seen, and it would suck if you stopped doin beastiemixes altogether.
I 'm getting the idea that a lot of people feel the way you do. I'd just like to ask you not to stop.
My second point:
When i look at the entries for the 1 year mixtape, i notice there arent a lot. For the previous contests involving prizes, there were like 6 times more entries. I 'm thinking some Remixers over here should be ashamed of themselves. Its a 'thank you ' mixtape for Silence 7 but if theres nothing to win, nobody enters? (except for some regulars).
Silence puts way more hours into this than we do, but apparently a thank you was too much.

That was pretty weak...there should have been at LEAST 12 mixes on that tape.

There isn't many people that go into the "remixes" part of the message board.
When you feel that you've created something really good, I think you should post it on the regular beastie board
