The more I think about it, bretheren, i've always fancied the day when the boys'd drop a, i guess at this point "typical" beasties album, circa 92-98. talkin rap, hardcore, instrumental, rock, funk, sample, etc type shit. but the more i ponder it, terms like "real beastie" and "typical beastie album" really reveal to be more and more hollow statements, for the true essence and definition of a beasties album is something radically different than the last.
and as much as i hoped for another "beastie album", in the truest sense of the term, i realize i don't need the nostalgia and familiarity like i thought. the nostalgia and familiarity are already there, infesting their multi-decade spanning library. i want them to take my hand and lead me to what the fuck my ears need to hear, not what they want to hear. if i need nostalgia i know where to find it, and PLENTY of it. cause by god, if i havent learned to trust their judgement by now, then i dont even deserve a throwback album, let alone, more importantly, the next progression of their music and career...
fuckin real.
*sorry bout the long post*:(

You mean they should make music that everybody likes? im glad they don't to that, they always made music that they wanted to make, and im glad of it!

i meant more along the lines of, i want them to do their thing and turn me on to some new shit, rather than hit me with some joints that i've already heard and come to love.

well i think the stuff they are doing on the mix up is pretty new, ok it's instrumental but different, off the grid start like a normal instrumental but turns in a rock version with a nice loud guitar, i like that (y)

Word to that, I like letting the Beasties expand my musical horizons. Like as soon as i heard some of the new stuff and that it was a "post-punk" album i started listening to the stuff they said kinda influenced this album and I like it.
Oh high and mighty b-boys shine your light down upon me and show me the way!
