View Full Version : A teen murder is greatly influenced by Beastie Boys?
This week, 17 years old boy killed his mother in Japan.
This news is the biggest issue on almost all the Japanese
TV news show like the Columbine High School shootings.
One of Japanese major TV station, "TV Asahi", report
Beastie Boys' music influenced this teen murder.
To be concrete, the lyrics of "Fight for your right" and
the music video of "Body movin'".
Why? Because he listend to these music AFTER (not BEFORE)
killing his mother. (lol)
It's ridiculous. But, I'm afraid that people will misunderstand
Beasties by biased reports. So, I hope
Beasties' office make a strong protest to "TV Asahi".
Otherwise, they will report such a load of rubbish for a while.
Thank you for reading my poor English message.

Ok, here's my opinion.
I love it when people try to blame murder on certain elements of the media.
Although some media (violent video games and stuff) are most likely to blame for some crimes, you can't blame shit on lyrics about fighting for your right to party and a music video depicting a spy movie spoof.
Especially the fact that he listened to FFYR and watched the video AFTER, which shows that they obviously had no influence whatsoever.
Aren't the people employed by that TV channel intelligent.

I think if anyone is so greatly influenced by any form of violent media that they attempt to imitate it they're crazy to begin with. I play violent video games but I've never even considered killing anybody.

if a person is so intensely influenced by music to the point where they'd reach the extreme of killing another person, it's quite obvious that something else in their life is the origin of making them that sensitive and uninhibited in the first place; i.e. their parents, peers, etc. while music may be the trigger, it takes a lot more than songs like "Blizzard of Oz", "Helter Skelter", or in this case "Fight For Your Right" to fuck someone in the head that badly.
well, that's my two cents at least.

Look at the Beastie Boys album sales. Millions upon millions of people listen to the Beastie Boys. 1 person listens to Fight For Your Right and kills someone. You mean to tell me that has to do with the Beasties?
No, motherfucker was crazy, and crazy motherfuckers are the ones who kill people. Has absolutely nothing to do with what he listened to, what kinky sex shit he was into, or what kind of movies he watched. People who do this kind of shit have it in their head, and thats all she wrote.

Well, I like to kill people and I like the Beastie Boys but I would hesitate to say they have influenced me.
Listening to Jimmy James while stabbing someone in the throat does make it a tad bit more enjoyable though.

WOW. I cant believe they would get blamed in 2007. well, if johny lennons's killer can blame the book "to kill a mockingbird" which was wrtitten in 1960. so, anything is possible i suppose.

Mark David Chapman killed Lennon, and he was influenced by
"Catcher in the Rye" written by none other than JD Salinger.

That's very true; people influenced so heavily by media shit have got issues.
I'm sure that being so often exposed to that shit messes their head up more though.
Killing people in a game probably ends up being so realistic to crazy people that they just decide to try it on a living, breathing person.
I've played violent games too, and I've never considered killing anyone either.
We're the sane ones, yo! (y)

hmmmm.....actually the guy cut off his mum's head and arm, and took the head into a police station in sports bag and confessed. It was pretty grisly. The head and arm thing is the same as the Body Movin video right?
The underlying reason seems to be that the guy 'lost himself' in high school - he used to be the best and smartest kid in his small countryside junior high, then when he went to the city high school he wasn't number one anymore and the shame of slipping down the ranks made him crazy.
But there are a lot of crimes like this in Japan...a couple of months ago a teenager killed his sister for pretty much the same reason...the failiure to live up to his academic potential...
Rather than blaming the Beastie Boys I'd point to Japanese society, where there's huge pressure on kids to perform perfectly at school and no allowance for 'failure'.
But there are a lot of crimes like this in Japan...a couple of months ago a teenager killed his sister for pretty much the same reason...the failiure to live up to his academic potential...that's interesting. murder rates in general in japan have always been the lowest of all countries pretty much. as of the 2000's they're like 5th to last of a list of 100+.

I'm speachless...
This could be dangerous but it makes me smile a little....I guess that, as a lot of other ones said in this thread, the fact that he listened to those songs AFTER the murder means nothing... but we also know that media are a very powerfull bomb.
