Anyone got a good blow-by-blow recap of this weekend's events? Maybe someone already posted, but I'm lazy and coudn't find anything. Want to know how everything went?

One weekend, three sets, can't wait to hear all about it...

it was a bucket of fun, with alot of wind on Sunday Night...

they moved the line-up from the mainstage... Michael Franti and Spearhead had to be moved to the Wookie Stage after the wind-delay (which lasted about two-three hours)

I liked Saturday's set a little bit better than Sunday's set...it was completely raw and organic, and the crowd was really into the Saturday set... the section I was in for Sunday had a lot of teeny-boppers who ended leaving the rail after they didnt hear Brass Monkey/almost got crushed...

it was fun watching Alfredo with Blackalicious, as well as the Bad Brains Set on Sunday... I missed $ Mark's set because I wanted to stay in the pit all day...

after the wind-delay, they made everyone leave the pit and when they opened it back up there was somewhat of a stampede...

Yeah, Saturday night set was crazy. I was trippin when they busted out live at PJs and Time for Livin'. Never expected here Shambala live or Ricky's theme. This tour is definitely more rock focused than the last one. Last one there were a lot of cuts from LTI and PB but this one was really focused on CYH and IC. They showed that there musicanship is really tight. I am really excited for The Mix Up.

Let me apologize for my review for a few reasons because a) I haven't slept since 8 am yesterday morning and we just drove 15 hours to get back to SLC b) I am drunk. and c) my memory sucks.

The shows were fucking awesome. The show Saturday blew my mind in every capacity. I have never seen them play their instruments before and jesus christ. Okay I have to stop, I will try to actually explain it later but I have to say YoungRemy looked as killer as any of the Bboys that night. Represent!!!!

Question to those who were at the shows - what do you think of the new material?

oky now that I've actually had some sleep maybe I can be more useful. Though as I said I'm not extremely good at describing these things, so I apologize.

The weather Saturday was amazing so we were lucky about that. I work my way up to the front and thank you again to Pooty, Mira, Jenny, and Paul for pulling me up with them to the front. What an awesome view!! I have never seen the Bboys play their instruments and it was truly just an amazing set. Horovitz looked so fucking into it - he would just smile and play his guitar and you could tell he was loving every minute of it. I will let someone else post the set list because I can't remember it for the life of me - however, Sure Shot with Money Mark on keyboards was awesome. I loved seeing Mark on the Bus performed live as that is one of my favorite songs (I have some video of it I will upload later).

Yauch didn't say much but he would pipe in occasionally. He still seemed as though he was enjoying himself however (contrary to what I heard about Friday's show). The crowd was loving it, having it on the smaller stage definetly made it feel more intimate and even when they played new songs that nobody knew, people were into it. The new material sounded good, fairly similar, but still good. Off the Grid was fantastic. I played it from my car in the campsite Sat. morning and a lot of people were asking what it was hah - new Bboys!! That was one thing, people were playing music all over the campgrounds and I swear at least half of what I heard if not more was Bboys - you know so many people were there to see them. Just incredible, the sheer amount of people! A ton of people were walking around wearing Bboys shirts - I didn't see as many Bjork shirts. I think they are probably more relatable to many people than Bjork is (I'm not knocking her at all, what I saw of her set was awesome), so you could just feel that energy in the air. It was pretty funny when this really young girl that was somehow in the crowd kept yelling Brass Monkey! Over and over and finally Ad-Rock heard her and was like uh what...do you know what a Brass Monkey is? I recorded most of his reaction to it, I'll post that later.

God dammit, sorry I'm trying to think of more ways to describe it all. I did expect a more "crowd-friendly" set Sunday night, with more big hits, etc. rather than any instrumentals. I'm guessing that was a dissapointment to many people who aren't as crazy into them as a lot of us, but how can you knock seeing Sabotage performed live? That's pretty amazing. I don't think a lot of people made it through the crazy ass wind (the only way we did was someone sneaking back to the camp to get sleeping bags and whiskey, seriously). Still, the boys seemed like they were really enjoying themselves again - Mike talked about all the great bands that were there that weekend.

Sorry, as I remember more about the shows I will post more. It was probably the best weekend of my life to date. Not just seeing the Beasties twice in two days, but I felt like i was living in a movie, I bonded with the people camping next to us and it was just an amazing way to spend some time in the great outdoors. If you ever have a chance to go to Sasquatch, I recommend it.

Here is my video of Egg Raid On Mojo - so much energy and so much fun. I'm really sorry it's so blurry and jumpy - I couldn't help jumping around. But wait till after they finish, when they are talking is the funniest part. You can see Ad-Rock telling Pooty they'll play Something's Gotta Give the next night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwzRLiIzPUY

i was there for sunday's show, and i thought it kicked ass. although, i didn't have the privilege of seeing them friday or saturday, so i can't really compare it to the other shows (besides the other 7 bboys shows that i've seen), but i'd give it a 9 out of 10.

that said, mike d was on FIRE. probably the most energetic i have ever seen him. horovitz was hilarious, as usual, and yauch was pretty mellow, but totally brought it - esp on his bass'. the new stuff was fantastic. funky/groovy/bow chicka bow wow/slightly familiar. i think there were only 3 new instrumentals throughout the entire set, however.

egg raid on mojo and the maestro were awesome surprises, and while MMM wasn't highlighted nearly enough (i heard he was sick?), i thought they rocked, and i danced my ass off. we had cool people (who were old, like my husband and me - LOL!) all around us, which was nice, b/c people were respectful of others' space and didn't care if we were jumping up and down, screaming lyrics or simply head-noddin'. we were on the ground level, but pretty far back. didn't want to deal with the aggro kids who were apparently complete assholes up front. sux that people were injured.

anyway - i thought it was a great mix of everything old and new. just what i had hoped for. (y)

I can't wait to see them on this tour... the Pageant was great, but this is a whole other level. Thanks for the Egg Raid video... but cutting it off just as Heart Attack Man is starting is kind of cruel.

sorry for cutting it off - I hate doing that! But my battery was low and I don't have that much memory on that camera so for most of the songs I only have short clips.

OMFG!
those two shows were amazing. Period. I was blown away by them, they were beyond sick. As someone in another thread put it, they concentrated on the CYH & IC era joints and their playing was TIGHT! I was all about the pagent tour, but this shit right here was what I dream about when I wish for the perfect beastie set! PS I lost my mutha fucking mind on sunday when they played son of neckbone (which had recently resurfaced as a favorite of the moment for me, also is my current ringtone). As far as I'm concerned they took it to the next level, the reinterpretations of their joints- the root down breakdown and that truely ill version of so watcha want were jaw dropping. I've been really into off the grid (aint we all been) but as much as I loved it, it sounds so fuckin tight live- its absolutely sick I couldn't believe how much I loved it! But their was no let down- the entire set maintains a level of excelence that is astonishing. I cant wait till they finish off this festival business and start touring back home in the fall and add in the only thing missing, a few of the ol school joints. Untill then I have some SICK memories that should easilly last me till the fall.

That little girl was one of the highlights of my time out there. The little girl and her mom were trying to get up front (The little girl was the fan). Somehow, I had made it to the rail, so I was standing up front. There was some douchebag wearing one of those camelbaks pushing on me and just being straight out annoying. Apparently, the guy wouldn't let the little girl through, so my friend told her mom to ask me if I would help. I couldn't hear the mom, but my friend got my attention and made the "she's with a little kid" motion to me ( I hadn't even noticed the little girl she was so small). So the mom asked me if I would help her daughter, and I said "Of course I'll help you". The guy was trying to give me shit about it but there was no way I was letting a guy wearing a camelbak tell me what to do. I just took the girl and grabbed her and put her at the rail (with mom's permission of course), we offered to prop her up but she said she was fine.

It turns out she was 9 years old and a HUGE Beastie Boys fan. Her mom came up and told her they had to go b/c Manu Chau was going on soon and that's "who mommy's here to see". I promised the girl that they weren't doing Brass Monkey that night. I feel like shit b/c I told her she'd get it the next night, but you've all read those stories.

Anyway .... point of that story .... that kid rocks!

P.S. ... I'd love to see that vid!

Does anyone know what this contraption (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgO80LTTJPI&mode=related&search=) is that Horovitz is hitting in this video before the start of Sabotage?

All of the Washington shows were especially mind blowing to me because the set list was so unexpected, the guys were in amazing moods, the intimate setting created a special atmosphere that made it feel like the fans were getting a special treat while the main stage Sunday concert felt like an event and not just a show with the Gorge backdrop, the wind blowing and the lighting.

I have never enjoyed main stage festival shows due to the lack of intimacy, and I feel that when you are at the rail in front, you are really missing the SHOW! Starting with Coachella in 2003 and all festivals in between leading up to this last one, I feel that the typical "meat head/frat boy" monopolizes the fun of these main stage shows and ruins the experience. Standing further back allowed me to experience this show in its entirety with all senses being tweaked instead of worrying about the crush of fans screaming "Play Girls!", which actually happened. Fuckin' tools!

The Saturday show on the Wookie Stage left me saying "Oh my god!" over and over the rest of the night. I was elated. This show was amazing to experience at the front rail with appreciative fans surrounding us. No one pushed or shoved. We fell in love all over again with this band who has now done what my boyfriend and I have begged them to do in numerous personal conversations - stop being predictable! This is a band that has rediscovered what they're all about and has a renewed passion for their art.

We thank you for this amazing experience and it was well worth the 30-hour drive!

Could not of said it better myself- that is exactly what I thought/ experienced- down to knowing the crowd would be much better a little further back on Sunday to an all out gratitude for this new Beastie phase. Its gonna be sick, y'all, so be sure to get with it.

Hey Guys,

Couple more questions:

Did the Beastie Boys make any humorous comments about Sasquatch (since they were playing a festival named after their arch-nemesis circa 2004)?

Was Amery anywhere to be seen (please refrain from any A.W.O.L. puns)?

I just posted a bunch of my pics in the Sasquatch thread in Bboys Press section so go check em out if you're so inclined.

I don't recall the boys making any Sas jokes like that...and I didn't see Amery anywhere. We did run into Cey Adams by chance when I was hanging out with Pooty.

What Kll said was right on. The wookie stage show made me fired up for the next night and the mainstage show literally warmed me up and gave me energy after the blasting winds and frigid temperatures.

I'm bummed I didn't get to meet anyone from the board, though. Too bad it was down the two weeks before the show.

We were about 30 rows back and saw the girl dragging mom in tow to the front. She was really exicted, and definitely was a good energy boost to the crowd. Good to see that the BBoys recognized it and interacted with her. I just wish they would have thrown down Brass Monkey for her!

It was also nice that (most)every one rushed off to see Manu Chao before the Encore. We were able to get much closer without being crowded.
