I for one am sick of reading here and there that the BB are too old to rap....what a load of bollocks!! why is this? shit...snoop is as old as them, yet you here no such crap about him being too old. It shouldn't piss me off. but some how it does. By way of fact, there are plenty of shit young rappers that simply can't touch the BB, yet because they are young, they seem to carry it off without too much of a problem. I'm going to be 39 in a few days. I've loved and grown up listening to each and every album BB has dropped. It will be a cold day in hell before I stop buying and listening to hip hop because I'm " too old ". I may be bias, but nobody can touch BB reinventing the wheel in music. So in a few words...FUCK OF WITH THIS TOO OLD FOR RAP BOLLOCKS!! ...lol.

...they meant to old to wrap. Wrap. Their hands are getting shaky and so the paper is kind of botched, and they can't get the bows tied right. It's nothing personal. They should just take stuff to the gift counter.

Isn't Mike D 40 and a half? I could've sworn we had the same birthdate.
The difference between "almost 37" and "almost 41" isn't that big.

Mike D's 41, turning 42 in November (same age as me!). No one would say that about Chuck D either though, and he'll be 47 this year.

I think the Beasties current live shows and last studio album/tour discount that theory with ease...

Raceism, sexism and now ageism. Every generation has to conquer these monsters anew. What I want to know is: what the fuck difference does it make how old you are? Do you like the music? Do you like the performance? That's it.
It works the other way too, no doubt, and probably contributes to the cult of youth. What I mean is, as a teacher, I get to overhear so many so-called adults or grown-ups lashing out on the young for one reason or another. If I were them I'd hate adults too. Everyone who posts to this board who's still in junior high or high school or college or even just graduated is having to put up with adults who underestimate them. I guess the differences and causes are very little between the isms. Don't punish adults for their age just because some of them are a-holes, and don't miss out on good art for the same reason.

Thanks for linking the live video. I got stuck in that portal watching Beastie videos and performances for an hour.

I'm pleased I had positive feedback back on this point
Some more musicians who get spared the wrath of ageism
BONO AND U2
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Greenday
I think in some way, rockers can get away with it more maybe than rappers.
Like I said at the top of this thread...BB can still run with the best of em.
Another thought is...reckon they will do rap again? what kind of vocals can we expect from them next? after all, The Mix Up is as far away from Hip Hop as you can probably get. Yes TISFWO is along the lines of this, but that was a collection of tracks from different albums.

The whole age thing has changed. There was a time when people genuinely couldn't imagine still playing rock at thirty. Then forty. Etc.
I think the forefront of rock artists who have shown how to age -- and I'm leaving blues out of it, even if Howlin' Wolf rocks harder than most twenty year olds -- are folks like Lou Reed, Neil Young, Van Morrison. With little exceptions here and there, they didn't get wrapped up in trying to be young, surf trends, curb their adult impulses, etc. And still rock. (y)

What a load of bullshit.
Nobody says that about AC/DC, The Rolling Stones or Pink Floyd, and they're way older than the Beastie Boys.

The beasties are 'old' in terms of the length of hip hop and their respective ages so a lot of the people/press ect are think they are too old to rap. They really are the oldest 'reputable' hip hoppers out there in terms of arena draw and longevity and mainstream press. Sure there are older rappers out there like chuck d but PE has not had a solid album, in many peoples opinion since like 1990. Others like de la and such have rapped forever but play little clubs and such. Nobody else at their age can still really pull off a headline show!
I remember seeing the rolling stones in 1989 fall and thinking 'wow, these guys can still move' and they were in their mid forties. And all the articles about them talked about 'the old men of rock' now nearly 20 years later mick jagger has more swagger and stage presence then almost every 20 year old rocker out there.
I think the beasties have really 'matured' correctly along with their fans. They have showed their goofy side, their punk side, their adult side and their creative side. They can combine it all in a live show to this day very well, and instead of trying to 'act young' like some bands hanging on to their glory days they make an effort to 'act experienced' by adding a little piece to the puzzle.
Hopefully they next time the 'rap' on an album it will be as on point as HN because I think TTFB was the only let down in their career. A ten plus year break between solid hip hop records would add more to the 'old man' argument that a lot of people have.
