My town has 5 public pools. They are heated..... have slides, mushroom waterfalls, water spouts, diving boards and the lifeguards carry those floatation rescue devices.

They have adult swim. They make the kids get out for 20 minutes while adults over 30 can swim laps. I decided to do the adult swim. I walked out to this huge empty pool with hundreds of kids just hanging out. I decided to do a 1 and a half off the diving board (then start swimming some laps). I felt eyes burning my skin and I felt like Greg Louganis except I am not gay and I have no diving experience or gold medals.

I bet the guys at the cartoon network have also exerienced the adult swim
1st hand before naming the late night block of shows.

Oh, I kind of did 1 flip and landed in a head first cannon ball on the 1/2 turn. I have to say I am very proud of my American crawl and elementary backstroke (I was a lifeguard in High School).

Please share any public pool experiences because they are a dime a dozen.

When we were relocated overseas for my Dad's job (I was between 4 and 8 years old), the pools had no lifeguards. It was situated in the center of four apartment/condo complexes. I was walking home from my friend's place (I think) and saw that no one was at the pool so I hopped the small chain link fence, climbed onto the ladder in the deep end of the pool and pulled my shorts down and shat. I used my underwear to wipe. Left it there to sink to the bottom and ran home. That is probably the only good (if you want to call it that) public pool story I have.

When I was a lifeguard this kid was on the high dive. It was about 12 feet off the water and the deck and ladder were only off to the side about 5 feet. The kid jumped at an angle and landed with half his body on the deck and half in the water. He broke his arm and was all squirrely.

They took down the high dive & put more tension on the low dive.

It was a madhouse on Memorial Day. The pool seemed heavily chlorinated probably to combat the pool pissers.

Some pools are disgusting but some are really nice.

I used to lifeguard at this pool in the Shenandoah Valley. It was a huge pool that never got really crowded. It was on a big hill and you could see the mountains in the distance. I also worked at a nice pool in Grottoes Va near the Grand Caverns.

This public pool was not very big and had way too many people.

When I had pool parties as a kid, my dad used to put in this liquid that turned urine into a red cloud and it trailed your ass if you pee'd in our pool.

It was awesome .... no one wanted to swim in our pool though after the incident with Joseph ..... fucking pool pissers.

I like you Skye. But I have to call bullshit on this.

Its an urban legend. http://www.snopes.com/science/poolpiss.htm

and i think mythbusters busted this one too.

I'm on my way to the pool right now!....tonight is snorkle and fin,night!....you can rent masks and fins or bring your own....they have hockey pucks you can dive for and all!.....I am a simple man, easy to please...I wish there was a wave pool near me though.....I am always astounded when I meet someone who can't swim,I just don't get it.....but we have clients from Ethiopia and Somalia,so,the first time these kidz hit the water is a sight to behold!

It will be 90 degrees today so I am going to try one of the other public pools.
The concession stand has extra large pixie sticks for 50 cents and they also sell Zero candy bars.

I don't know if lucky is the word. I will be in the shallow end pushing my boy in a float.........and I am sure I will be surrounded by housewives and wayward teenagers.

You are correct. Echewta is one of the lifeguards.

I've been spoiled with a private pool in my backyard my whole life. My dad loves pools, so he built one at both houses I lived at. He built the decks, put in the pool himself (aside from the foundation which we had professionally done with bulldozers and such), and he cleaned and maintained the pool. Once I moved out of my parents' place, I had to use public pools. I went in my first public swimming pool in yeaaaaaaaaars last summer. There was hair and band-aids in the pool filter. It grossed me out.

I think I'm going to get a pool whenever I buy my first house. My dad taught me how to vacuum and do shock treatments and test the chlorine levels and such, so it shouldn't be too hard to maintain. Then I'll have massive summer parties.

i had a ridiculously expensive gym membership because i love swimming as an exercise. i grew up with a pool and did water polo in high school so i'm really at home in the water. i recently canceled it, though, because:

-someone took my towel and replaced it with a used, WET one and i didn't find out until after i showered off and placed said towel on my body
-NO ONE seems to understand that when sharing a lane you swim on the RIGHT side of the center line so that the faster person (me) can pass you. OH MY GOD JUST LIKE A ROAD
-high school jocks will sit in a lane 4-5 at a time and splash each other, right next to the "2 people per lane" and "lap swim only" signs
-older slightly skanky ladies will work out upstairs for 10 minutes to get sweaty (but still have perfect makeup) and sausage themselves into tummy-tucking swimsuits so that the greasy hairy old dudes can drool at them and they'll be Queen of the Spa for 20 minutes
-the curtains on the showers cover about 1/3 of the width of them. seriously, what's the point then?
-it's closed all. the. time. it's been closed for over a month because the whole filtering system completely shut down. it was closed for two weeks a while back because someone barfed in it. fuck that, i'm joining my school's gym. their pool is outside.

I took Aiden to the swimming pool. All the housewives were gushing over him and I sat next to a real life MILF. We talked about our kids. I am happily married but I have to say that this housewife was a firecracker of a woman.

Oh, the pool was really warm and all of you germphobes ruined my good thoughts.

One more reason Bangkok beats the fuck out of where you live(y) I'm trying to add that up in my head that it levels out the I can't get Youtube but These Are The Breaks~ KB

I did notice a bunch of the kids and women swimming in t-shirts. I can't swim with a wet t-shirt hanging off my body. It just seems uncomfortable. I guess they are either trying to hide body fat or keep the sun from burning their alabaster skin.

You know what is also good summer fun? Throwing a 9 month old baby around on a slip and slide.
