Playing devils advocate, maybe her bloke cheated on her and was having a guilt trip and decided to ease his conscience by sending flowers.

flowers are a waste of money, why buy something that will die and be thrown away ...
It's a romantic gesture, the kind many women appreciate. It reminds them that they are special to someone.
LDR's are pretty cheap. Maybe he had some money to blow.

It's like when I go into Beastie General to find out bout the new album and I see thousands of threads about "WOW, Adrock walks really funny on this new tour" and "MCA seems happier" and "What do you think Mike D dreams about".
I want more.

I've only sent a girl flowers to her job once and that was when one of my ex gfs broke up with me so I was going through that 17 year old mentality of not giving up. Only to find the same flowers in the trash the same day.
That then told me that I should use plastic flowers that won't die so that I can dig through her trash so I could use them on the other girlfriends.

I'm old fashioned, I like giving and recieving flowers. It's nice, they smell good for a while, you throw them away, then you can replace them.
It's a reminder that you need to keep things fresh in a relationship.

I send my mom flowers all the time at her senior center. It pleases me to think of how jealous all the other old bats are. :)

Giving flowers is a waste.
If the guy were a jerk I'd share the story, but he's a nice guy. Just too bad about the package.
Anyways,
I usually think most typical gifts men give to women are a waste. Unless it's a video game, awesome concert tickets, or something of that nature. But I admit flowers is one thing that I dig. Mostly potted ones though, potted orchids ftw.

my dude recently gave me some meatwad socks. so, those and a he-man trading card have been my gifts so far. ha ha. hi5.
I used to want flowers sent to my work, but not so much anymore...I got no one to impress, we're all friends. it would be cute to be surprised with them sometime though. I guess he did put some wildflowers in my hair in the park, but then a cicada popped out of the ground and plopped next to us, so we ran away screaming. heh.
