woman at centrelink (welfare office) almost had me in tears today. i was treated like a piece of human garbage. now, i realise that some of you may think that people who receive welfare payments probably are human garbage. that's a common assumption. but, i didn't choose to live in a place with such high unemployment that it is near impossible to find work. i didn't choose to have parents that are so poor they can't afford to have me in their house. i didn't choose for both of them to get sick this year so i had to spend my time looking after them and not working or looking for work.
i'm just sick of these comfortable, middle class people looking down on me because i need welfare to survive. i am an intelligent person, with a lot of workplace abilities to offer, and i am more than happy to work.
god life sucks so fucking much right now.

Fuck those fags. Play the part of a moocher and throw it in their faces. You know you're not on welfare because you're lazy and have 15 chil'ren, right? You won't see 'em again soon will you? You'll feel better when you're eating your free peanut butter and jelly sammiches. Everyone falls on hard times sooner or later so fuck whoever can't understand that. They're probably still wondering how Katrina victims just couldn't pack up the SUV and head over to the vacation house.

It seems to be working for me. No blood yet.

You know you're doing the right thing taking care of your parents. A lesser person would have washed their hands of it.

another thing that shits me about here is that no-one seems to appreciate a university education. everyone seems to think it's a holiday, and it has no bearing on potential employment. it's shit. i thought education was supposed to be a good thing?

They won't do shit for you, especially if you're younger and well educated, until you really get in their face like a fighting hellcat bitch from hell. They save money by not letting you have any. Remind yourself that you're just asking some of the very money back you paid in taxes while you worked. That's how the system is supposed to work.

thing is, people like to judge. They always do. We all judge other people, and some people judge more than others.

Unfortunately, we don't take in to account of what the persons life may be like. What they may be going through. What their past has been like. Etc.

That doesn't justify that the woman was a bitch, that sucks and it's undeserved.

But perhaps it's good for people to see this kind of perspective before they decide to act similar to this woman and judge someone and/or treat them like shit.

Hope things get better for you, zorra.

A young man walked into the local welfare office, marched straight up to the counter and said, "Hi, I hate drawing welfare. I would really rather find a job."

The man behind the counter replied, "Your timing is amazing. We've just got a listing from a very wealthy man who wants a chauffeur/bodyguard for his nympho daughter. You'll have to drive around in a big black Mercedes, but the suits, shirts, and ties are provided. Because of the long hours of this job, meals will also be provided and you will also be required to escort the young lady on her overseas holidays. The salary package is $200,000 a year."

The man said, "You're bullshitting me!"

The man behind the counter said, "Well, you started it!"

Zora --

So, so, so so so so often, when some peon gives you attitude, it's because they're probably stuck in a shitty position with little options, too, and being rude to someone they "can" be rude to is probably most of the power they have in the world.

I hope you can see it as just her problem and let it go. It doesn't have to have anything to do with you if you don't let it.

I don't know how it works over there...but over here...if you pay taxes..you are paying for welfare. If you had a job you paid into unemployment. therefore if you have had a job and you paid taxes at some point in your life it is YOUR RIGHT to take advantage of those services. you paid into them, esentially it's partly your money. and you shouldn't have to feel guilty or ashamed about that.

some people abuse the system, some people haven't even tried to work they just go on the dole because they are lazy fucks. you are not one of those people, zorra.

so what if the people at the welfare office are jaded?...they probably deal with a bunch of miserable assholes, the least of which is you. don't let them get you down.

hang in there. *insert photo of stupid kitten hanging from a tree by one paw*:o

im sorry to hear you were treated like that. no one deserves to be.

but try and look at it from the person behind the counters point of view. how many lowlife, dirt bag, redneck, thug, ignorant, loser ass people come through her line? probably a lot, a hell of a lot more than decent people like you.

they are only human, its hard to put on a smiley face every day at work, no matter what you do.

only thing you can do is brush it off. and stick with it.

People judge other people for all kinds of reasons. I make assumptions when I shouldn't and your stories open my eyes to that. I can tell you from personal experience that the government employees who work at any kind of service or clerk job for any length of time are so miserable that the only way they feel good is to convince themselves that the citizens they service are faceless losers. What this woman did to you demonstrates who she is -- not who you are.

You're a young woman, with lots of time to find the right job. You're smart and you are willing to work hard. Right now, you should spend as much time as possible with your parents.

i've applied for 10 jobs in the past two days, and spoke to a guy at the recruitment place who said he should be able to find me something with out a problem. thank christ.
seriously, i'd like to work in a welfare office just so people wouldn't be constantly treated like shit for circumstances they can't help.
wish me luck on my job hunting folks!

so what if the people at the welfare office are jaded?...

The welfare office workers are mostly likely formerly on Welfare, and the only was the system got them off was hire them.

I dealt with the same thing with SSI

Centrelink is supposed to be there to help those who need it.

And yet its so complicated, I don't even understand it, and I'm in the top course, in one of the top 20 universities in the world!

And then to add to that the staff are generally hostile and looking to deny you assistance rather than to help you.

Its bullshit, especially considering the amount of rich kids who get their parents to run 21,000 through their businesses books so they get youth allowance (basically you have to prove you are independent of your parents, either by showing your parents are so poor you had to move out or by earning 21,000 in 18 months).

It'll be from Western Union so it'll be a bit short but that's the jist of it

Of course I'm talking about the US system, I tried and failed miserably
