View Full Version : Bored + Google street view = Pauls Boutique
I was bored and playing around on google maps new "street view" function and figured I'd go find the location of paul's boutique. Quallitys pretty crappy but here (http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Rivington+new+york&sll=40.92496,-73.899558&sspn=0.006939,0.014591&ie=UTF8&om=0&layer=c&cbll=40.72008,-73.98835&cbp=1,250.525626670449,0.653133741258741,2&ll=40.720559,-73.988253&spn=0.000927,0.001824&z=19) it is.
You can move around and zoom in and out and go up and down the streets.

I talked to Pooty immediately after his convo with Horovitz about the mashed potato sample. And Pooty thought he said it was a comedian by the name of Manfred, Monfred, or something kinda like that.
I tried a few searches but came up empty. This is pretty consistent with what Yauch said on here a while back. Yauch said it was something like Montel.
But still no luck.

I did the exact same thing yesterday on Street View when I was testing it out, it's pretty cool.

As has been discussed here- that ain't the same place- its a brunch place now that had the good sense to keep the name of their infamous forebearers. Food ain't bad, neither.
Well, yes. I dont think anyone here thinks its the same thing. I just thought it'd be cool to see the corner that the album cover was taken on.

I was in New York last week and I went to that corner... there wasn't anywhere called Paul's Boutique. I could see the place where it used to be but it was just a closed up shop or some shit. There was quite a busy café there but it wasn't called Paul's Boutique.

Hmmm, I guess they went out of business or sold it, or just changed the name.
It was still Paul's Boutique last October.

Yeah I was just about to comment that. If you click on the satelight (sp?) veiw you can get a close up of any freakin place in the world. Think of all the people who have your adress, all they have to do is type it in and they can get an EXACT veiw of your neighborhood and house. Fun times!

i just went by 99 rivington street earlier today and was confused and surprised that there was no place called paul's boutique....i should have read this thread earlier this morning so i wouldn't have been so surprised.
however, i think the new name, "three monkeys" could also be a reference to the beastie boys if you want it to be...

Street view isn't taken by satellites. It's an army of vans and cars with cameras on the roof. Like this one (http://www.engadget.com/2007/05/31/check-out-the-immersive-media-street-scanning-car/)
