"""The Beastie Boys surfaced as a joke band. They worshipped the Bad Brains. They called themselves the Beastie Boys because the initials were B.B. They, just like everyone else were as excited by the Bad Brains and the emerging hardcore scene as anyone else, but they were kids, 15-16 years old at that time and they didn't really have the musical chops to imitate what they heard going on so they said, "well we're gunna have fun with it".. and they're still having fun with it. they're having fun with music of all kinds."""

- Jerry Williams- Bad Brains, Beastie Boys producer

Taken from my brand new DVD, American Hardcore. If you haven't seen this yet, and grew up with old hardcore like me, or just getting into it now.. even if not.. it's interesting how the whole scene emerged..lots of interviews with ian mckaye,HR,Henry Rollins etc.

i got my copy from blockbuster.. it just got released.. and by the way, the thread title is from a flyer for a Beastie Boys show they show in the movie

The DVD came out a few months ago. I rented it the day it came out. It's awesome.

Rented this a few weeks ago and was surprised that they got a mention. Very good documentary on the early days of punk.

Damn, is this out in the UK?

I love 80's US hardcore - Bad Brains, Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Descendents, Circle Jerks, Cro-Mags, Minor Threat, 7-Seconds, Dag Nasty etc. its just so much more 'real' than todays so-called punk bands, back then was truly for the music & truly underground.

I'd love to see this.

I saw it at the Sthlm Filmfestival last year, and as I was working there I could also borrow the pre-screening tape home as well...
