Now that a lot of us have the download, what is your favorite song?
I dig:
B For My Name
Freaky Hijiki
Cousin Of Death
The Rat Cage
What about you?

Right out the gate, I'm feelin' "The Gala Event"
I think it has something to do with the unique sound in comparison to all the other trax. But I like to let things marinate, and will prolly come up with other faves over time just like with all Beastie Boys albums.
I think "Cousin of Death" and "14th St. Break" are definate contenders though.
I gotta say, there are sounds in this album that are freaking out my cat! It's hilarious.

i've only listened to the whole album once so far, but as of right now the rat cage is still my favorite song. it's got that james bond double-oh seven spy theme song vibe and i keep imagining yauch in a tuxedo and all his super high tech-y spy equipment, hunting down the bad guys and all and rescuing his girl from danger (meeeee!). man, i go crazy when it hits 2:43 and a big part of that is because that's the exact time yauch makes his debut appearance in the rat cage video, so every time it gets to that part of the song, oh my it's a good feeling! the mix up reminds me of like the "b-boy bouillabaisse" of instrumentals because it's like each song leads into the next one and it's lovely. this is after only listening to the album once like i said, however, because i don't want to spoil myself too badly before the 26th comes! i remember lovin' "cousin of death" and "electric worm" a lot, too.
edit: i'm having my second listen now with headphones, but i'm still hoping not to get spoiled silly. much! :p

I haven't listened to it yet.
I decided that I was gonna drag my ass out of bed on the 26th (my first day of summer), buy it Mix-Up, pop the rekkid in my CD player and be suprised.
I really like what I've heard so far though (The Rat Cage and Off The Grid).

whoa-ho-ho! hello! wow, just finished listening to the album for the second time. beautiful music to my ears! it sounds so much sweeter in my headphones! freaky hijiki gives me eargasms, seriously. okay, so i've got it. my favorite songs on the mix-up are freaky hijiki (which is also a fun name to say out loud), the rat cage, electric worm, and cousin of death! aaaaaaaaaaaaah! gimme that smooth, sexy bass again and again! and again! and some more! <3 i can't wait to buy the album and hug it tightly in my arms. maybe i'll kiss it, too. mwah! i'm high off the mix up now, sorry. huh! turn up da bass! the album is so full of energy! 12 tracks of pure energy and beastie goodness! yeah! i don't know why it hasn't really hit me until now, but as you can tell i got full blast of it! *bounces off walls* woo! :D :o
very cool album, y'all will love it, it's worth the wait indeed. (y) pardon my impatience. but i'm lovin' it. i might have to spoil myself silly now!! (!)

No shame in waiting. I didn't think I'd be so ademanet about this but, I'm digging the build up. Its the anticipation that makes the pay off worth it, so I think I am going to refuse to download the album (even though I am a serial downloader) and wait for the 26th. I have 2 "singles" already(OK, those are downloads- but for the purpose of this rant they are "singles" which I "purchased"- so shut the hell up!). My point being that with the rat cage, off the grid(my favorite of the 2) and the wookie stage show recording I have tons of beastie material to go nuts about and build my anticipation and outright desire for the new album. Its a fantastic thing that feeling- it's like the weeks leading up to your birthday or christmas/hannukah. Why rush through that shit. Honestly who knows when there will be a new beastie album (although does sound like we will be getting a second mix up sooner than later) but odds are I will have to wait several years after this to be this close to a new album dropping. I'm just preaching living in the moment and learning to enjoy it- even (especially) if there isn't instant gratification in it. I ain't judging anybody, I'm just saying for me, right now it's a pretty cool time to be a beastie fan.

I'm in love with B For My Name right now. It's so fresh and summery, I'm totally gonna be groovin' to it when I'm in NYC this summer. I also love Suco de Tangerina and 14th St. Break a lot. But I love the whole thing, of course, so I could soon have more favourites... it's all good. :)

You'll all be complaining about how easily digestible the album was in 2 months. Luckily, you started that countdown early.

If I was to have heard the album I would probably pick Cousin of Death, strictly for the title cause I'm a Nas fan too, certainly not for the actual song cause I've never heard it.

I've got my fingys crossed that "The Mix-Up" comes out on clear vinyl in keeping with the clear drum set, amps, etc... the Beastie Boys are rocking.

I point blank refuse to download it. Ok many of you who have downloaded it will go out and buy the real thing on 26th, but I refuse to steal music off BB. Only time I download there stuff is remixes. You can't beat walking into the store, buying your favourite bands new cd and busting to get it on your cd player. (y)

Personally, I would have had the same reaction to the album in either case.
I really hated The Kangaroo Rat upon first listen, so much so I turned it off. But it does have in inescapable dramatic quality that I can't shake. I've been analysing that one song a lot, and enjoying doing so. Same with B for My Name. I didn't like that at first, but I enjoy trying to read all the little moments in there.

Yes, these are songs you need to know before you can appreciate them. 14th Street Break is a favourite of mine now after a few listens.

for reals? wow, i thought b for my name was a really strong opener. had me shakin my ass immediately, though once i heard 14th st break right after (the first time) i kinda lost that energy..........and then shot back up when suco de tangeria came, and then............well, you get the point. the mix-up surely is a rollercoaster ride, at this stage at least.

I swear every time I listen to "The Gala Event" I'm immediately transported to the opening credits of the next James Bond film, complete with silhouettes of curvaceous babes brandishing handguns.
Then there's that "14th St. Break". This cut just sails. I was listening to it while working today and found my productivity increasing when this was streaming in my headphones. It's so upbeat and I can't think of the appropriate adjective at the moment, but man it just moves along so rapidly like a river current or something. Zat make any sense?

yauch could lay some haunting lyrics over the gala event, it'd sound even more spectacular with that deep baritone voice of his!
la la la....just another idea. :D
