to be at a VIP party at the new Planet Hollywood hotel in Vegas on Saturday and to hear someone on a mic say, "And now... here's Mix Master Mike from the Beastie Boys!" and to have him deejay the party for the next several hours.

I'm not really impressed by VIP status and whatnot. Let's focus instead on the music. Are you worried that MMM might leave the Beastie Boys? I'm kind of worried, like they could go either way at the moment on an all-instrument set, or just wheel him out of the box for 1/3 of the set.

I wish that they would change up his hip hop songs to include some "out of the ordinary" songs, which would go along with the theme of the rest of their set. It would give him something new to do and at least feel like he's performing instead of being "wheeled out".

It's kind of understandable. The ovation he gets is as big as the Beasties ovation. I don't know if it's because of his arrival signifying their arrival or what. He's become very much a part of the furniture to audiences. In some ways, he carries their music to the ears of the great unwashed. Many people I imagine leave more impressed by Mixmaster than by the Beastie Boys. I could see them possibly wanting to quell that, if at least unconsciously.

Although Yauch seems fairly sourpuss too, of late. I hope he's not thinking about packing it in. One of the band blogs (by Horovitz) talked about how him, Mike, Mark and Fredo would be out and about doing such and such. Where's Yauch while they're off galavanting about? In the box, too?
