when I was a much younger cookiepuss, studying to get my fairly worthless degree in communications, the head of the communications dept told me this basic rule of Publicity: It's doesn't matter if you generate good or bad publicity, but you've utterly failed if you've done something that no one has an opinion about.

and I realized that the same pretty much applies to the internet...it doesn't matter if people love or hate you on the internet...but if they've never noticed you at all you...don't exhist.

I suppose the rules of publicity apply to lots of things in life...including jobs. if you do some thing bad on the job you can always learn from it. but if you do something in your job and no one notices, well then you might as well not have done it at all.

to put it simply: make an impact. good or bad it's better than nothing at all.

I'm very much OK with the fact that I'm and internet unknown.

Too bad, I already started telling everyone I know two guys who met Bam Bam Bigelow in person! :(

Why is it almost worthless? Have you started working in the field?

Girl that's jive. That's the George W. Bush philosophy. There's plenty of people in the world right now wishing he'd made no impact, rather than the bad impact he's had. Same goes for you and me - no impact is better than a bad impact, and a good impact is better still.

I've been working in the field for over 6 years. I'd have been better off if I had sold out and went to work for an agency...but I didn't want to do that, I wanted to help the little guy so I went to work for non-profits. and non profits don't pay much, or they hire you to work a season of fundraising and then once you make them some money they cut their budget and send you packing.(n)

for the past two years I've been working in a different field because I just couldn't find anything in this area that was permanent.

well, that's a good point. the rules of publicity do not apply to everything/everyone. in that case, I agree that no impact is better than bad impact.

that's why i brought it up, so we could discuss dis shiznitz

not everyone cares about making an impact on the internet, though.
